How To Use Xp Themes
To use XP Themes you’ll first need to install UxStyle (free). This program enables Windows XP to use unofficial themes without patching by creating a service that handles unofficial themes. UxStyle also has support for Vista and 7, and a Windows 8 version is in the works.
How to Install UxStyle
1. Download the version of UxStyle for your version of Windows.
2. Unzip the .zip file.
3. There will be two .msi installers.
a. If your system is 32-bit, run UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x86.msi
b. If your system is 64-bit, run UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x64.msi
4. Follow the steps in the installer wizard.
When the wizard finishes, you will be able to use XP Themes.
How to Install XP Themes
Note: These instructions assume you have already installed UxStyle.
Once you’ve found an XP Theme that you like, download the theme and save it to My Documents or a folder where you’ll be able to find it. Open the folder you downloaded it to, and unzip it (see How To Unzip A File). Then open the unzipped folder containing the theme (example below).
Double-click on the .msstyles file (or one that has an icon like the one selected in the screenshot above). This will bring up the windows Display Properties dialog:
Click OK to apply and activate the theme. If at any point you want to change back to the standard Windows theme, just go to Control Panel > Display and choose the theme you want.
