has that "movie set" feel to it. i like the overall ambience, but the black overlay is a little distracting.

That's a weird filter on the original picture. It looks like a screen shot of a video game. Anyway, the giant spider is pretty cool. I like how this looks different from your normal style.

This was an 85-90 until you re-did the shadows on the spider... now it doesn't make my brain go "NO! WRONG!" :)
I like the reflection mapping on the spider.. nice touch. Now that I look again, however, the spider is too clear for the rest of the scene. All the other objects, even ones that should have a smooth surface, have a kind of blur and roughness to them. You might want to play with blending the spider in a bit more. I am being picky, but, I notice these things and they tend to bug me. I always nit-pick the special effects in movies. :)

it's nice as a design/image, but as a wallpaper it's lacking usability

as an exercise to blend 3d into a 2d enviroment without it looking out of place its excellent, but as an image i cant say im too keen. as a wall its not too usable and from a design point of view im not finding it hugely stimulating (as it were heh :D)
