Im very tempted to delete this, but I can tell you have some untuned skill and with a little help you could produce good work. This is just extremely chaotic and messy, I find it very unusable.

Messy, consider making the opacity of the squares lower and keep them a solid color. Also make the grids less opacity.
And why consider deleting it? To become better you need critiques and if you deleted it you would just be slowing down the process, which is redundant considering you said he needed to improve.

i like it.......but i say just lose the grid entirely. it would give more depth with the back faded like that i think.
