I have been watching screenshots here on customize for a long time now, and i thought i was time to post a screenshot of my own desktop. The following text are some of my thoughts about how a desktop should look and info about my screenshot.
I have been looking around for VS themes for a long long time now but i think whistl3r's NANO theme still is the best one out there, its clean and the black and white colors match everything.
One of the strongest reasons why i use winamp, and probably never will switch to another music player is: Winshade + Always on top. I always have my winamp in "Windowshade mode" on top of my desktop, this way i always have control over the navigation and have easy access to the playlist.
The only icons i have on my desktop is in the quicklaunch, i love those 16x16 pixel icons =) The rules to get a clean and nice desktop is simply.. NO icons. If you have WindowsXP just rightklick on your desktop > Arrange icons by > Show all icons, to hide them all. If you want better access to your applications i recommend a great little hotkey app by bCheck called Hoekey (http://dana.ucc.nau.edu/~tsr22/apps/hoe.php) A little tip with hoekey, you can with one hotkey resize any window and place it at predefined x and y coordinates, very nice!
Its not very often you see Total commander here at the screenshot section, and its a shame. If i would to choose the one best application created for windows, it would be this one! Its a little hard at the beginning getting used to but when you have mastered it you can navigate and work at least 50% faster then when you worked with windows explorer.
I think this is a very clean and minimalistic style and its also very efficient to work with. Thanks to all people here at customize, hope to see more great screenshots in the future.
aloooot of reading...aloooot of ugly window in the middleedit is that media player in the lower left bsplayer or did you photoshop it in? it looks like nano winamp but it cant be because you already have it open on top...
I know that the screenshot would have looked better if i had removed the totlcmd window. But its still essential for the screenshot, not only because its the best app =) but because all the other app windows are aligned to it.
