Here just sort of an analysis of what's possible on OS X customization. Instead of just showing you one window like usually, I thought I'd show more of a full range.
Wall: Float by Ether Butler: my config This program is amazing. The window with adobe on it comes up on ctrl+space. You just type any phrase and it will give you matching programs, bookmarks, etc. I have a seperate one by pressing apple+up that only searches my iTunes library as a way of navigating music. The contextual menu is also part of butler and the ways in which you can use it is limitless. I can browse and open folders and apps. Refocus to another app, shutdown, etc. It's much like litestep if you can configure it right. Using a kengsinton mouse, you can just simply assign the menu to your right-click. The OSX default right-click is set as a double-click.
Menushade: hides the menubar but it fades-in on mouseover.
Theme: My take on a VS in Imrik's LYYRA SS. I won't take any credit for this. Obviously NFR.
Icons: Minimal(?) I forget by who, but its somewhere here on customize - if anybody knows, make sure to tell me.
Adium config: contact list style is by me message style is a mod of Minimal.
iTunes theme by me
Clock: Konfabulator music display: youControl:iTunes
I think that's it. Enjoy. Any Questions, feel free to ask.
i think this has just made me want a mac. i have never said that before. VERY nice job. is that itunes theme for release? and is butler OSX only program? oh and whats up with the titlebar on the itunes. there are corners cut out on it or somethihng?
That's very nice indeed. Some thoughts : Butler is a great program but I found it uses many CPU. A great alternative is Quciksilver for those who hate mouses, like me (or finderpop for those who like mouses). I love the idea that all applications icons are the same (unless you are a dock lover). Very nice mod qnd very nice iTunes skin. Btw, what font have you used for the back/play/forward buttons ? I have an headache for searching such font for this kind of buttons.
i really like this. once i get a network adapter for my osx partition, i'm gunna do something similar hopefully. i may end up contacting you, since i'm new to osx (;
same.. really nice screenshot :) very thorough, and that itunes is great. a couple tiny things though, the top corners of itunes skin are darker? and, is it possible to make the caption font the same color as the caption bar? you can still see 'itunes' on it.. :x what's the discolored block in the search part of itunes? save just a couple tiny things, this really is a great mac setup. props :]
Excellent indeed. Someone should make butler for windows - the search and launch part of it I mean, or is there allready something like this out there, perhaps a dll for litestep? Please inform me of it with a PM if that's the case. that would make working so much more efficient.
#6: the font is Heldustry FTV Basic akka, I didn't even realize those black squares, I guess my monitor contrast isn't good enough - just a mistake in theming =O). But yeah, i need to fix that and for the font, I don't know why everything in iTunes is themed seperately, but I couldn't seem to find a way to change the titlebar font color for it. If any one else has tips on this... ambulance:Even if I released it, I think the skin only works for iTunes on Apple. dephunked: yeah I used to think quicksilver was better too, - it's motion effects are cooler, a lot more utility - i miss my definitions plug-in. But Butler has a great contextual menu =O) Thanks everyone for the comments but still, I hope it doesn't give you a false idea of the limitedness of customizing on macs cause .. there is. I actually prefer windows myself. As soon as I need a new laptop... Anyway cheers for the comments. And thanks for the feature. It's appreciated.
@felix/CeoX: i use AppRocket [ http://www.candylabs.com/approcket/ ] which is imo the best all round windows app of that nature, looks alright, works alright, but costs. theres also Colibri [ http://colibri.leetspeak.org/ ] , which is limited in its options but has some interesting features, and the ultra powerful but slightly ugly Find&RunRobot [ http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mo user/findrun/index.html ], deliciously free. As for the Mac, i'd say Quicksilver beats Butler hands down, but thats just me.
thats a good itunes skin, all the ones i find look just the same as normal except with uglier colors. This one acutaly looks good. I think i might get confused with all my apps having the same icon, but thats just simple me. good work.
