the red seems a little too bold, but other than that, not bad

Skin is nice. Without looking at the icon shadow I thought that this was 98 or 2K. Nice.

LTD says:

Red is way too bold. I know you chose it and you must like it, but the bold red renders the desktop not very usable. Matching is alright, but it could be better. Since you have chosen red as the central colour, maybe you could have made the taskbar and icons a shade of red as well. It's a good effort, but unfortunately, by making the icons and taskbar gray, you;ve just left the big red thing on its own, and it clashes. I kinda have a personal rule about this with respect to colour selection/composition, you might differ with me though: When you have a large, bright central colour, the surrounding icons, applications and things generally not part of the wall should pick up on that central colour. You'll generally get a better looking product, in my experience. The Aim is good, though, you got that right on. Still, a good effort :-)))
