"I'm a wanker"

The Beatle's impact on modern music is hugely exaggerated. They were a good little band, but not the founding fathers of this and that and the other... sheesh.

well said colossus.

sorry not to use expletives overly or unnecessarily, but you fucking pricks who say beatles suck. at the moment it says 37% beatles suck. you idiots. i could write an essay but its 4.54am, so i think i'll pass.

seriously though, you fucking dickheads. the beatles made over 300 recordings, and AT LEAST 50 of those are classics. revolver is probably the best album ever, abbey road is definitely top 5, sgt peppers, the white album.... fucking fools for ignoring them, you're missing out big time.

p.s. even thought ive said all this, ZEPPELIN RULE! :P

Okay, if I'm such a dickhead and you're so right and The Beatles are musical gods, I'm sure you can explain why they were outsold by the Monkees at the height of Beatlemania, right?

Elvis fucking Presley, one of the most manufactured acts ever, did more for music than the Beatles. Saying The Beatles created/pioneered anything is as ignorant as saying 'there was no grunge before Nirvana, Nirvana invented grunge rock!'

Chuck Berry and Little Richard built Rock and Roll. The Doors, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, and countless other 60's acts perfected it. The Beatles were just an evolutionary step, and a small, mostly bubblegum pop one at that.

Get your head out of your ass.

how can you not like the beatles?

07:49 am (10 years ago)
Avatar-50x50

look im not saying you have to like the beatles. and im not saying that they had anything to do with rock and roll, (although While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of the best rock and roll song ever!).

there are just so many good beatles songs. like, every song is good, but the volume of albums and songs they produced over 10-ish years is astounding.

and how can you say that they were a small, bubblegum pop band? thats just ignorant. if Revolver is universally recognised as perhaps the best album of all time, along with abbey road, white album, sgt. peppers, let it be...

also, the comment about them getting outsold, erm, well, britney spears outsells norah jones, queens of the stone age, radiohead, etc - does that mean she is more important, or makes more revolutionary music. no.

again, im not saying you have to like the beatles, or their music. but you have to recognise how good they were, and how important they were.

oaky, the beatles are the best. Firstly, the reason they were outsold by the Monkees is because there are more americans than british and, I don't know if you know this, but the the monkees were a band manufactured by american record labels to recreate the success of the beatles only wihtout all that nasy music stuff, so they hada lot more time to be touring and making public appearances all over america than the beatles did and...well, jesus, this is pretty self explanatory.

secondly, the beatles really weren't all that influential on modern rock or pop. don't worry about it, they're still the best band ever. when people talk about how they were the most influential band in the world, well usualy they're wrong, but also, usualy they're talking about how the beatles pioneered studio techniques like, say, doing the vocal to a song eight times and playing them all togeather or, making the sound of someone laughing sound like a seagull or, well, all of "I am the walrus", that song was really ridiculous especially since nothing even remotely like it had been done before. But really it was the techniques that george martin and the beatles used to achieve these sounds that has been influential as countless bands and artists have reproduced them. and, of course, Sgt Pepper's, the first concept album and you know a lot of people have done that since then. Of course one could argue that all of these things would have come about at some point anyway, but the beatles did all of them, and I don't care what you say anyway.

So finally, the beatles really kick ass even if they weren't the most influential rock and roll band of all time (Led Zepplin was, by the way), and if you don't thinks so you probably haven't actually listened to them, and if you have listened to them and think they're bad I don't know why you bother listening to music at all...and you suck.

Given that they formed 40 years ago, I think the fact that people our ages even know who they are enough to argue about them proves how important they were to modern music.

bah, just cause they were popular doesnt make them important.

I can't belive you are so ignorant to say the beatles suck.

They didn't invent any musci style, but they made a revolution in music, why, they recording style was new chip1270 said, they said things other musician didn't, they did simple music but with deep meanning.

And compare it with backstreet boys just how limited your music knowledge is, I'm not saying that I know a lot a music (to not say nothig). But how come you can compare BEATLES with a band that only lasted a few years, didn't wrote any song and never sang anything good. Is like trying to campare flowers with cheese.

So enlighten me, what were the Beatles doing that, say, the Rolling Stones weren't to make them the best band ever? They both had the same roots and a somewhat similar sound, and critics will agree that several Stones albums are classics of all time.

Frankly, what I'm reading here is: "The Beatles are nothing special because [...]" and getting back "No, you're wrong. You don't know what you're talking about. You suck because you don't like the Beatles."

"But they weren't anything special because [...]", and I'm met with, "No, you're ignorant. You're just wrong. You suck."

:P

In all fairness Chip did write up a nice retort, but I disagree with him on many points. I'd get in to all of them, but I've got to leave for work. The main one though: The Beatles didn't pioneer high-value studio recording, Motown did in the 40's and 50's.

Tom Morello didn't invent guitar tricks, he just learned a number of them and put them all together. Yet he somehow gets credited with having an 'innovative' guitar sound. This is true of The Beatles, they didn't invent any revolutionary sounds or techniques, they just took a lot of blues, a lot of do-wop, and put it all in a pot. And I know the "Wall of Sound" argument is coming, but that was used with several other bands as well.

Their hair and matching outfits had as much to do with their success as their touching, heartfelt lyrics. Lyrics like "I want to hold your ha-a-a-and." Wow, that was profound.

And Colossus, I'd actually like it if you jumped on me here, there's not enough intellegent debate right now. :(

Lastly... Hash had the best point here. "Just because they were popular doesn't mean they were important."

The Beatles were popular for their time, but arent anymore. In my vast collection of roughly 25,000 mp3s, I have not a SINGLE beatles song, I couldnt name a song or a member of the group if you aimed a gun at my head, I'm 19 years old, have parents that would know all their songs, but wouldn't know one of it killed me. Their not popular anymore among anyone under lets say 20-25, and they wont be popular in the future. (Of course, I have no room to generalize, but im just saying, for arguments sake)

WHY are people getting hung up on what they did for the future of music. Shakespeare practically INVENTED modern english, and I'd say, oooo, about 6 people in the world still like him. No, the reason the Beatles were so good is because they made truly great great great songs. I don't think you're a wanker if you hate them, I just feel sorry for you. Actually, scrub that, you are a wanker.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you ever get out of your room? I'm 19 and I can't think of anyone my age who DOESN'T think the Beatles are kick-ass. There is no such thing as a certain age group of Beatles fans, they transcend those kinds of boundaries.
