Good. Jark was always a tool to me. He usurped my devart profile url (gear.deviantart.com) for merchandise bullshit and then never used it, so I had to pick a different username if I wanted people to be able to access my page.
Not like it makes a difference. I haven't submitted anything to that site since they fucked up and lost an assload of submissions a couple years ago.
I actually just read about all this a few hours ago. I don't really know how their staff works nor any of them personally, so I cant really say much other than it seems strange.

did you read the deeper links aphaits, matt0 ... in particular the deleted thread and personal blog. ... summary, look at those deviants trip over each other in total chaos. one thing we could learn from them would be organisation wise, but um ... er ... look what happened in that case. :D. ... least we don't have power struggles in the ranks, being the underdog definitely has it's pros (no expectations!).
DeviantART was the last branch of our "community" that had only it's artist's interests at heart in everything it did. Rather than completely commercializing the site and forcing the subscription agenda, the owners of dA took a huge risk and ran with prints as one of their primary lines of income, sharing the profits with the artists.
Jark has done more for the community than any mere "admin" I can think of. Screenphuq and Wasted Youth (Jark and Matteo respectively) were core influences on my desire to pursue digital art as a lifestyle.
This is corporate bullshit of the highest degree, but it's already hit every other site in the scene. God save dA.

_______________ An empty body but it still bled Oil from the axle and it left a trail. Ran down Java street and formed a pool. Manuela saw the moon in there.
Its amazing how many submissions have been submitted in the last couple days relating to this and how many staff members have resigned. It appears that the entire devart community and staff are against jark being fired, but there has yet to be any sort of explanation.
The last time I tried to buy a major skin-related site for $3, they thought I was joking, and when I upped it to $10,000, they said that was "insulting". I expect we're going to need... one MILLION dollars.

pretty bad for the DA community. there's not even a real explaination for all these, other than legal issues.
this can get bad/good since if deviants keep getting confused and emo all over the place, the deviant art community might blow up and therefore all deviant peeps must come into the customize.org community which is bad/good for all of us here.
two years into the f.u.t.u.r.e. ..... on a charmful christmas morning, the little emos of 136 ouchmywrist road awake from peaceful dreams of killing oneself and becoming the next emo-star. ... all in their little black and or checkered/striped AFI or green-day pyjamas they run to the bathrooms and apply black eyeliner where appropriate as it's been foreseen by great mojo that "things could get worse." so are readying for their dissapointment. ... down the stairs they run and surround themselves around a single depressed christmas tree, a ceremonial single tear is shed before the grand opening of the presents (note: emos do celebrate christmas thanks to the fundamentalist christian revolt creating the "christian emo" genre.), once the formalities are out of the way they rip into it. ... little timmy unwraps his present, filled with aspiring thoughts of another pair of black and or checkered/striped AFI or green-day pyjamas, emotions builds and timmy lets out a squeal that shocks and awes all the little emos nearby, black santa gave timmy a BRAND NEW set of afi and green-day endorsed razor blades! ... never ever ever to be continued, this shouldn't even exist!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe the current administration (http://spyed.deviantart.com) should give the answers everyone wants. the community is waiting, yet all the CEO can say is that "deviantART is the community".
Maybe this is because I know nothing about how deviantart and its staff work, but how is it that someone who made deviantart can be fired? Shouldnt he be the high power there?
Jark and Matteo founded the site, but had 'real lives' to attend to as well, Jark working full time in Japan I believe, and Matt being in school. $Spyed was involved in a lot of the business dealings from the early stages, and secured the site a financial backing in a bad spot. He's more or less responsible for the site's state as a viable corporate entity (he's sort of the CEO), and he's the guy making the big financial decisions.
It's kind of comperable to Eisner forcing the Disney family out of the Disney company.

this reminded me of how 50 kicked the game out g-unit to gain record sells. at least 50 had a reason clearly pointed out (even if stupid) to kick out the game out. but jark was kicked out for this "legal issues" crap (as for as I read) and nothing more but confusion, otherwise known as no real reason at all and a lot of bull$ is covered.
but i'm not really that much into deviant art (never really visited, only read the articles you posted) cuz im nice and cozy here at customize. but go jark, cause jark, apparently you got kicked out of what you seem to think is an amazing community that YOU HELPED create since the BEGINNING, and now you've been "fired" after nearly 5 years in contribution of D.A. but eventually I think jark will make another community.
well, hopefully $jark and the game will come together and make a better community, because that will show the world that nothing can overcome the power of love. i
I think the general attitude here is that customize users think its better than devart, but I would guess that most people here also have deviantart acounts.
we also get great pleasure from laughing at other peoples unfortunate events. ... especially arch-rivals who are probably co-sponsors but in an effort to continue this eternal battle we are expected to loath one another!
Deviant art turned to shit years ago. I find it sad that people have nothing better to do then hang out on a website because they have no life outside of their rooms and have to get all pissy about shit that is inconsequential and meaningless. Deviant art is as meaningless and useful as an asshole on my elbow would be. Dev has turned into a place where prepubescent teens can post half naked photos of themselves taken by shitty webcams and old dirty men can look at them and masterbate to the idea of a young lolita. But you can not over look the fact that burried deep within the piles of shit there are a few rare gems... but again this is pointless and meaningless. Who wants to look through two hundred photos of half naked eight your old girls just to find one good piece of art.
If I have spare time I browse deviantart. There are a lot of really good artists there and a lot of proffessionals. You just have to go through a lot of crap to find the good stuff, because for every great artist there are 500 artists who submit crap or just stuff that I have no interest in.
Lets not bash another community. I understand some of you might not visit it or do not like what they have to offer but don't be so rude. It's a good site that hast lost a good co-founder.

DeviantART's biggest problem is it's navigation system.
Most of the people bitching about how deviantART has gone to hell were bitching about the same stuff back in 2001. A public forum such as deviantART will be mediocre by it's very nature, insomuch as it's broad user demographic represents the 'average' artist to a greater degree. Custo on the other hand has gradually become a moderated site, which is to say that the admins and a weighting system determine what materials users see.
The problem is, these sites both use basically the same navigation system, which makes NO sense considering the differing approaches. A better navigation system would make dA much more tolerable by making it easier to filter out mediocrity, but the biggest supporter of updating the site's backend was just fired. :|
And another key thing I feel the need to add: Custo and dA are TOTALLY DIFFERENT SITES in terms of their goals. Custo is a skin site, and it primamrily serves as an archive of the 'best' work in various genres. dA is an art site which happens to also accept skin files. It's not about skins.
Our heritage is hacking. That's what the skinning scene evolved from, and it's reflected in our style, culture, and mentality. dA's heritage is the late 90's indie art movement. A lot of us (myself included) were there when dA was born out of the Wasted Youth scene, and because Matteo was one of us, we feel a certain sense of entitlement. dA is not for us though, it's for alternative artists, and in a lot of ways, it's for the goth emo kids more than us. It's not deviantSKINS.com. :|

I wonder if the same thing would happen with customize if it became as quantitatively large as deviantart.... Luckily customizing is a rare sport and the people here have a sense of humor. I love this place.
Custo will never be as big as deviantart. Its too much of a specialized site where deviantart draws in a broader crowd. ________________ FrostedFlames [FF] Customize.org Staff
