Why don't you press the "PrintScreen" button on your keyboard and paste your brand new screenshot into the GIMP?

Thanks, advent, sorry for being such an idiot but the reason I dont do that is b/c I dont know how...when I hit the 'print screen' key, the cursor on screen flashes and then thats it. If it captures a screenshot, I dont know where to find it...need more help!!

When you press the PrintScreen key, the cursor will 'flash' as you put it. That means the screenshot has been loaded into the clipboard and is ready to be pasted. So: Hit PrintScreen > Open Gimp > New Document > CTRL+V

Hope I cleared that one up.

You probably are running too many programs (too much memory in use), which makes it not possible to create a screenshot using "printscreen". Close some more programs and try again.

Most video capture programs used to capture video from a video camera use "hardware overlay" by default for their video preview. Note that this kind of problem affects all screen capture programs, and even the image put in the clipboard by the PrintScreen key.

The best solution is to disable hardware acceleration in the application that is playing the video, or disable hardware acceleration system wide. To disable graphics hardware acceleration globally for all applications , select Control Panel>Display>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Tr
oubleshooting in Windows 2000 or XP, on other versions of Windows select Control Panel>System>Performance tab>Graphics>Advanced settings. In both cases slide the Hardware Acceleration slider to None.

Notice: This doesn't always work, but it might help to PrntScrn in some cases. Also note that you probably can't use this trick to capture screens from DVD in Windows Media Player and Real Player because they rely on the Hardware Acceleration to play DVD. For those cases try something like WinDVD, PowerDVD, or another program whose sole function is DVD.

Hope this helps.
