Yes...it is good, very very good. *id mind control wave ends* I havn't played it yet because my laptop's graphics accel is not fantastic and my desktop is spread in parts all over my room.
FUCK YOU UPS... 2 day air isnt fast enough... so much for "pre" ordering :(

I wouldnt realy call it a "nice" game more of a "scare the hell out of you piss your pants freaky" game... but yeah its very well made. And the minimum sys req are 64mb vid card,1.5ghz prossesor,384 mb of ram, and the usual stuff like windows... but i doubt it would realy run on that.
game as played on veteran skill level: found that one uses the shotgun waaay more often than any other weapon (played pretty far into the game i think as well, a little past monorail section?), the reason being that while there's plenty of ammo for the shotgun, ammo for other weps is scarce.
overall, the game is pretty good. and yes, well-made. dunno, i have tons of great memories playing doom, so just seeing the remade enemies is fun :)
Evil will always triumph over good because good is dumb.
In no way am I meaning to brag or anything about what i've got, just letting you know my specs so you can have an idea.
I have an Athlon 64 FX-51 processor, 1GB of OCZ Gold RAM, and a BFGTech GeForce 6800 GT OC. I'm running the game on 1280x1024 on high detail, with AA on 2x (4x or higher isnt needed in my opinion, too dark) and AF on 4x (in my display settings, thats what ive always got it on) and it runs incredibly well. So, I would make that the recommended specs. Optimal would be a 512MB video card, 64 bit processor with clock speeds upwards of 2.8GHz, and 4GB of memory with 7.1 surround sound. With that stuff, the game would run with an FPS of 70+ at 1600x1200 resolution, ultra detail, 8x AA and 16x AF. But that is just speculation, those parts arent availible yet so no one can test it.
oh mama this is the fkn sweetest game ever. im amazed it can run on my rig, (at 800x600 at med details) an athlon 2600 and a 128mb radeon 9200pro. Did everyone get the Chaingun in the Alpha Labs? Remember that martianbuddy site? heh heh
Prepare to hate me because it plays at 1280x1024 with the Ultra Quality graphics setting with very little lag. my comp. has 1.8Ghz AMD processor, 1.5 gigs of ram and a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, all 1-1 1/2 years old. altho i am still paying it off, cost aroung $1200 to build the tower itself, full list in my profile. my bro hates me now since his is second from max and lags like a 56k n00b on CS compared to my cable internet.
so everyone bow to my Rig, IT OWNZ JOO!!1!1 MWHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!11!1 just joking
the shotgun ammo seems pretty scarce to me and im playing on the medium level(marine i think).
i personally love the rocket launcher, no more being able to race your own rocket, so beautiful.

Its a pretty well made game, scares me, but I don't like how you can't use a flashlight and a gun at the same time...well you can beat them with your maglight I guess... but like Half-life you can use you flashlight and gun at the same time, I thought they should do that? Anyone else find that? I love the game though, erie as hell though
i think thats one of the best features. It kinda adds to the scare factor having this pissy little flashlight and having to frantically switch everytime an imp jumps at you.

uw ... i want the game, what i want and what i get are usually two different things though. Racer : what currency is that in ... thats a pretty expensive box. @Neo_Drakin : walking around with a deagle and a flashlight is pretty dangerous these days.
The requirements aren't that crazy . . . . . my AMD processor meets it, my RAM far exceeds it, my 128mb Radeon 8500 exceeds it, I believe . . . . . .just the whole Directx9 thing worries me. Can I run DOOM3 on a Radeon 8500 128mb?? Is it Directx9 compatible?
And YES . . . I'll have to boot into XP to run it. That pisses me off. Oh well.

LTD : I run it fine on a Radeon 9200se, which is pretty much the same core as the 8500. They are both DX8.1 cards but as loong as you have dx9.0c installed youre sweet. i play it at 800x600 with med details.
US currency, its a begging modders rig, but i built it for gaming also. i got help as a congrats for graduating from high school and making it to college present. im really not done with it yet, but i think i will probably sell it when it stops playing the newest game out like my old hp laptop playes CS, or when i get enough money to build a new one and use this one as a really nice file/game server. ill take pics of it sometime and post 'em soon.
i remember in the begining of the Doom 3 were you are going to search for the scientist and the lights go out, right before the demons are let out. i was searching the area with me trusty flashlight and i about pissed myself when the lights turned back on because i didnt expect it, and i have a subwoofer. :) sorry for the long post

a pretty sweet game, attention to detail is amazing... certainly put's you right into the scene... best graphics in a pc game yet. The lighting is seriously something to drool at.. i spent 20 mins playing around with the with the ambient light, grid lighting and of course the flash light... damn. a well polished game... awesome considering it only took about 2 years.

well i know my processor could handle it,(2.6Gigahertz), i have 512MB of ram tho, and the video card i have is decent... but 50 dollars...then having to upgrade, well...i have an XBOX :)
the shotgun dissapoints me... it's very un-DOOM-like.

I was suprised that it wouldn't run in the highest graphics setting on my machine with just one step over the 8X6 rez. Laggy as all get out and that's with a 3.0 ghz comp. and a nVidia G-Force FX with a wholelotta ram on it and the comp has over 1 gig. maybe i'm not doing something right. all the benchmarks and graphics test out ok on the ingame but my hardware scans out at 8X6 high quality mode and it's sorta laggy when things start moving fast or in a large environment... maybe someone could tell me something I don't know, b/c my comp shouldn't be doing this... maybe I'm obselete already :_(.......
@Shackle6299 throw some exact specs at me, and I'll tell you how it should run.

Aphaits, you'll be fine. I'm using the 128 version of that card and its smooth as a Malboro. I'm also running an Athlon 64 3400+, so that might affect it.
It's not something that has advanced gaming, or even it's own genre, to any new heights. But it sure as hell is Something.
The graphics make this game. I try to stay away from cliches like this when describing things, especially things I care about as much as videogames; but well, they do : the graphics, make this game.....that is.
That's certainly not a stab at the game's worth, though. Too often, it seems, the enlightened try to pass off "good graphics" as Taboo, a worthless Candy Coating there solely to coax Children into swallowing the Gameplay Pill.
"Graphics are meaningless."
But here, Doom 3, is Something that has exceeded my expectations by building a worthwhile experience based almost solely on visual presentation.
I think that's something.
Doom 3 is a good game.
And for the record, it took over 4 years to complete.
VictorC: its a fact(not a well known one), that most Americans prefer visual appeal, where as most asian people prefer gameplay. im guessing at this but i think that Doom 3 was marketed towards americans more. now keep in mind, there are people like you and me that prefer gameplay over graphics but we are the minority so we get over looked. i do agree with you that the graphics kick ass.

Specs were kinda general huh? Ok - Here goes - Video Card: NVidia Geforce FX 5500 with 256 MB of ram on card... Processor: Pentium 4 @ 3.0 GHZ... System Ram: 1.50 Gigs... Sound Card: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS. Now if anyone knows anything that could improve my performance (see last post) with this hardware, I would be thankful... maybe I'm trying to push it too hard though, and if someone out there has a similar system with similar problems - I would sleep better if I knew. Thank You :) - Shackle
shackle: other than the FX 5500 series blowing goatass, your system is pretty damn good, and should run it fine

Mwuahahaha!!! Zombies Fear me! I have unleashed the power of a BFG GeForce oc 256 on the minions of doom! This is kickass! running in ultra high graphics and not missing a step... much better when it doesn't play like my character has a hangover. Can't play long... have to go to work. At only 400 and change, who can't afford to work? Ah, the price of instant gratification. (In reply to all that other bullshit about americans and not liking plot, here's the truth. Instant grat. Simplify to exemplify, or some Jessie Jacksism like that... :)
i like the game, but i didnt like how i blasted off the head of a zombie, and it followed me around corners and around desks... oh and im running minimum settings and gettting like 5 fps :(
@ Enceladus no, you didn't like how the headless zombie still kept following you...
YOU LOVED IT!

I can agree that any GeForce FX card that isn't the 5950 Ultra is a piece of shit. And I am, and always have been a loyal follower of nVidia, so that's saying alot. They had serious issues with the NV30
NV35 (GeForce FX 5950) fixes these issues, especially heat. It also runs far quieter as a result.
Anyone who wants top-notch performance out of DOOM3 should go out and plop a good chunk of moula on a GeForce 6800 Ultra (or even better, get the BFGTech 6800 Ultra OC with the waterblock, it's overclocked even past what the non-waterblock OC is running at).
As for RAM, Hard|OCP recommends 1GB, as all their upper-level systems had at least that much. Corsair is best, but if you know anything about hardware, you should know this by now. Corsair XMS running at 550MHz DDR is the ultimate, and that's that. No two ways about it.
Any now-current P4 should suffice, although I personally would prefer an AMD chip over Intel's overpriced garbage. And the ultimate chip to have for this wonderfully demanding game? None other than the flagship FX-53 from AMD. Be prepared to take out a mortgage on it though....
what about the new ATi x800 platinum? benchmarks are showing that it makes Nvidias 6800 ultra look like a toy, plus it only uses one slot.(rather than two like the Nvidia's new design)
Hmmmm . . . . so you're all linkin' this new DOOM 3 monster of a game . . .
I haven't played it yet, but I'll be VERY impressed if it is as scary, freaky and downright creepy as Alien vs. Predator 2 for PC. AVP2 played with the lights out and sound turned up is truly a memorable experience.
Put it this way: playing AVP2 makes you feel like Tom Skerrit in the first movie (the only one that ever mattered) when he was crawling through those pitch black air shafts. So, play AVP2 with the music turned down, SFX turned up, lights out. See if you don't shit on a regular basis.

The only thing is if you read the article, they get those results from a time demo. Time demos do not run ANY of the AI from the game, so you're going to get slower frames than advertised from the article.
I played it for about half an hour and then deleted it. Oooo, scary. I almost wet myself with fright.
Talk about a lack of new ideas, this game's theme is so old and trite that I feel like I'm in a time warp playing some early 1990's game. Wow, great, the graphics are better. *yawn.* Doom 4 on the way next year! This time you get a new gun and with more gazongas and watchamacallits and the lasers sound twice as cool! Awesome!!
You know, frederoil, you make a good point, and although I haven't played DOOM3 yet, I suspect you might be right, unfortunately. It is after all a shooter, but yes, same old storyline.
The real strength of AVP2, for instance, was its being able to reproduce that kind of pervasive FEAR that was the strength of the first ALIEN movie . . . . the lighting, atmosphere, etc. Storlyine was predictable, but it had some nice twists as the Aliens advanced to different areas, etc. Very simply, if you loved the movie, you'll love the game . . . and what real Sci-FI/horror fan didn't like ALIEN ??
If you want a REAL storyline plus cool graphics (for its time) and great sound, look NO FURTHER than the MARATHON seris: Marathon, Marathon: Durandal, and Marathon: Infinity. Go back to 1995-1997. Highly involving storyline, fiendishly clever puzzles, mysterious, hostorical references, etc. There were whole websites dedicated to deciphering the twists and turns and surprises of the storyline. It was fit for an epic novel. I say they should bring back Marathon using the DOOM3 engine (including an OpenGL version for Linux.) THEN you'd be getting some heavy value for your $$$.

Frederoil - If you read anything on the ID site or interviews with the programers and developers, you wil learn that it is a throw back to the original DOOM game. It's a high tech "re-creation". So that is why it may seem redundantly familiar to you.
Please someone inform this man that the new release will has sun on. We have more illustiously tittle too look forward and piss our pants about wanting. ;) Forgive the poor vocab. The speelworld is still lingering.
