make sure the power from the power supply is hooked to it, make sure the correct IDE cable is hooked from the right mother board slot, to the burner. The ide cable is the cable with 40 wires feeding into the head, that you hook from the mother board to the device (hard drive, floppy, cd/dvd rom, etc ). it's obvious that you found the ide cable, because the head is thin and long. After the power and IDE cable are hooked up, make sure you have all the right drivers, and it is correctly installed in the Device manager (if using windows, right click on "my computer" then click on properties, then go to the "hardware" tab, then click on device manager, and the burner should be listed under "dvd/cd rom drives". if not, go to the control panel, and use the add new hardware feature, and go through that. if that doesn't get stuff working, i dont know what to do - maybe the burner is broken or something like that. good luck
