what's a good program to use for creating and editing animated *.gif files?

macromedia fireworks or flash is good too.
I still haven't got how to make the gif animations made in flash lighter... I always end up with a file 500k or more =/-----------/this isn't a fucking soap opera, (liquidred)
You could try Jasc Animation Shop (Comes w/Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8) - http://www.jasc.com/products/animationshop/? - It is seriously idiot proof. So easy to use and very versatile.
