since when did pamela anderson, lil' kim, tia carrere, and jamie pressly start playing video games? hmmmm, when spike tv became desparate for ratings from horny young males ;)
Evil will always triumph over good because good is dumb.
You dont have to play video games to present an award for one. Actors present VMA's. Martha Stewart even presented a VMA. But you're right, people want to see hot chicks give out awards. No one wants to see the nerdy teenagers and adults who test the games handing out awards...
as the first line reads in the about Spike tv section on the webiste "Spike TV, America's network for men" and you wonder why there are hot girls in the VGA. hmm i wonder why, lol :D
Man I don't agree with a lot of the awards they gave out. ESPECIALLY the one for the most highly anticipated game...Halo 2? Come the hell on already people. Okay, it's SEEMS like it might be good (as if the first one wasnt shitty enough) but i hardly think it deserves rankings over HL2 or Doom3 for that matter. This musta been geared a lot more towards console players and not *Cough* true gamers *cough* :) =p

As somebody who's hopelessly addicted to video games, I've known for a long time that PC games were always better. Just the same, the "gaming" community always refers to the console market. It's pretty much just the way it is, unfortunately.
Col - We need to change that! Get on it right away :-P Eliminate all console gamers IMMEDIATELY
Karah - =P you caught me DOA volleyball ownz me over Doom3 hah
It's really sad that people buy consoles and game after game. I mean, one console , modestly priced at $200 (Xbox or PS2) and 5 games, that's already $450 give or take of course if you find the console cheaper or the games on discount. I mean I'm all for consoles, I have GameCube and i play Metroid Prime, Mario Kart Double Dash! , among others all the time, and i was foolish when I got laid off and went on unemployment and blew a lot of my money on stupid shit (i.e. the gamecube JUST to play Metroid Prime) it just don't make sense :(
@Flint, me too man, my friend Tim who has every system from NES to where we are now, not missing a SINGLE one, setup in chronological order on a shelf in his room, lol, tells me that his console games kick my PC games' ass every time. I say hmm okay. So we take a game like i dunno GTA VC or something else that's on the console and the PC, and i put mine into 1600x1200 with 2xAA, and he plays his on his little console, and then I show him the EXTRA effects I get on the PC because it has a more powerful system to drive it, and he cries because his lens flares or explosions look like ass on the console. Just pitiful.
Damn do i talk a lot or what?

People buy consoles because you can buy 'em for less than the cost of a half decent video card, let alone a nice PC rig. You can rent the games from blockbuster, you don't have to worry about drivers, upgrading, etc etc. Consoles tend to have the hip titles first as well.
It's easy.
That said any decently set up gaming rig playing any decent PC game will but the fanciest Xbox title to shame graphically. Then again, graphics do not a game make. I will agree that historically PC games have more depth, and of course there's mods.
I really don't care what I do my gaming on, as long as it's a good game and I have fun. I'd play videogames on my toaster if they released good games for my toaster.
People seem think im bassackwards, if I can't look at a game, and like it aesthetically, then I cant concentrate on the plot line, character development etc. Example Halo. Im sure it was a great game, from what I did play the plot seemed alright, but, I wasnt enthralled with the graphical detail whatsoever, call me shallow if you wish, but if the game doesn't please me with it's textures and fancy lights, than I can't play it in it's entirety and say that I enjoyed it. Now some games I can play, like Max Payne 2, Call of Duty, Need for Speed Underground, because to me, those have very crisp detail-rich graphics, therefore, I can play the game all the way through, and enjoy the story line.
That is perhaps, why i never enjoyed consoles. And the console I DO own (Gamecube) as i said I only bought initiailly for Metroid Prime and Zelda Wind Waker (Zelda was more of a nostalgiac play, and to see how well they did on cell shading)
Sure you could rent games from blockbuster...but who would buy a console, and just rent games over and over? I dunno about where you guys live, but here it's $7 to rent a game and u get a week to play, that's $1/day just to RENT a game. IMO that's kind of lame, but if you can find a place that rents them cheaper than Okay, Consoles win on that point.
And you have a very good point in the problems of PCs, most average novice users wouldn't wanna deal with that. But let's look at the long term investment here...1 Console is $200 we'll say for Xbox or PS2 ($99 for GC). Most players would want an extra controller ($20-$30) a memory card ($10-$15) and on average we'll say 3 games ($150) That's , give or take, about $500. I know you cant buy/build a top of the line system for $500, but, the advantaged outweigh consoles enourmesly. Having to buy new parts can be expensive..but you don't *always* have to get the latest $400 video card to play the newest games. And when a new console comes out, that's another possible $400-$500 to spend just to get that with a controller and a few games to boot. And as immoral as it is, people can always download games on the PC, cutting the longterm cost immensly, but we won't get into that, as I know it's frowned upon..
I know all this might seem like BS to you guys, but it's all just my opinion, and I thought i'd share. Flame me if you must, but, it's just the way I've always thought about it. I feel more comfortable playing splinter cell with a keyboard and mouse, than I do with a little controller, just my .02KB =P

I must agree with the majority of you that pc games are better, but i think consol games are more geared towards a group of friends that just want to hang out and have some fun, its not like you can hook up several keyboards, mice, or joysticks to one computer and go at it.
No, you can't. But you can make a LAN party. =) Which are fun, but loud. Because you have all the computers going which is loud and creates a lot of heat, and takes up a ton of space. =)
video game award shows are ridiculous. they're about as impressive to me as music video awards.
and consoles have better selection of genres. if i want the very best FPS or RTS games, i'll use my PC, but for everything else i'll use my ps2 or gamecube.
i prefer LAN parties to consol games. i mean with the whole sharing a screen thing, you really like someone knowing where you are when deathmatching? what's the fun in that?
Evil will always triumph over good because good is dumb.
karah very good point, another reason i enjoy PCs more, but damn lugging this case around to my friends house and up 2 flights of stares is aweful, especially along with a 60 pound 21 inch monitor :(
but i do agree, that consoles seem to be for more people who wanna get together and have fun. I must admit, nothing is more fun than 4 people gettin together at my house, grabbin a Wavebird wireless controller for all 4 of them, and spinnin up super smash brothers melee, the fun never stops :) but that's about the extent of the 2 or more player games that i enjoy besides the occasional game of scrabble on the PC with my mother ;)

I'd have to say I am sorely dissapointed. David Spade is hardly funny, their selling everything based on sex (which is sweet, but its pretty pathetic that they have to resort to that).
Its very lame show actually. It sucks. What a waste of show time. I expected better.
I am watching the re-run right now as well. These awards had so much potential. I was looking forward to seeing innovative gaming media, and a real award show. So far, it is nothing more then a gimmick. Only a few of the games mentioned, deserve it. This isn’t any better then the MTV awards or the Oscars. Money buys awards.
I was just flat out disgusted. I have been gaming, HL/CS and quake for years on PC, and people who play on consoles are wanna be gamers. They just can't afford a true gaming system i suppose.
"people who play on consoles are wanna be gamers."
Coooome on testing! That's ridiculous. Of course PC's will always be a step ahead of consoles because of their easy upgrading capabilities. Everyone (mostly) was playing consoles before computers. There are soooo many classics out there for consoles, for old and new. All of a sudden you get hooked on these FPS games and forget about consoles?

So by col's logic, my 48 year old father would be a gamer? hmm
I believe a gamer is someone who sticks with their medium for games (PC's or Consoles) but isn't too afraid to try the other once in a while. Also, I don't feel a GAMER is someone who buy's Playstation 2, and Madden 2004, and Nascar 2004, and MLB 2004 or whatever. People who spend much money on a system, only to play one time of genre (even worse, sports games IMO) are not true gamers to me. I'm not afraid to try all types, including sports games, but I still commit to my PC and my first person shooters, some action/adventure, and a few RPG's. Been playing for about 7 years now, lost much money on numerous video card and CPU upgrades to keep in touch with newer technology, play multiple tournament matches, etc. I consider myself a gamer.
Again, all just my opinion. Flame away

Why couldn't your 48 year old father be a gamer? :)
You can't be gamer if you're older? I'm 30, does that mean I have to stop playing games soon? Do I have to stop when I'm 40? If you're older than 25 and utilize a console sometimes, you're not a gamer? Shit. Someone forgot to tell me and about 2 million other guys. I guess I have to take up golf or knitting or some shit.
I've owned most consoles produced for the American market, and a few that were not. I've been building and buying computers for gaming the early 90's. I love consoles, I love PCs. I love games. I love RPGs. I love racing titles. I love shooters. I love space sims. I get my FPS fix often. Madden....... well, not so much. But I love gaming. Boy Howdy.
I like consoles. I like looking at the next gen concepts. I get all sweaty when people talk about the PSP. As sweaty as I get when shopping out new vid cards.
I surf gaming sites reading previews, reviews nightly. I have real discussions that last more than 15 minutes about RPG battle systems. You know who you are.
I think I'm a gamer, even though I partake in the unleetified world of console gaming when the mood strikes.
I bet your Dad could whip your ass in a game of Stratego. :)
