lets say im generous and charge $28 an hour...now since you gave me no credit..you claimed ownership...so maybe more then just $28. Now multiply that by an average of 6 hours a wallpaper by lets say 5 wallpapers. that what...around $800 bucks?

um, first off the kid needs to be banned. Secondly, I've already started with my amauter private investagator skills into finding out as much as I can about herion. Any and all info I find will be handed over to sir wonkus. I seriously think we should find this kids school and contact them. This is how rippers start. I'm with gear on this one. I'll give him credit for admitting it. No, he probably shouldn't have done it, but it's not worth going crazy over. I don't think you have any right to get him banned, because he didn't violate anything based on the terms of this site. If he took your work and claimed it as his own, that's pretty low and it is reprehensible. However, I'm inclined to at least hear him say what precisely happened, because he didn't say so well.

And don't think I'm soft on people or anything like that. If you give people a chance to talk when accused, they'll either exonerate themselves or incriminate themselves. It's common to find people who say they're innocent come off as the guiltiest people alive when given a chance to speak.

i see both sides on this issue. i used a wallpaper on custo for a cover on an essay I did. i did try and contact the author and after getting no response from him i just credited him for the work in the citations and put it in anyway.. it fit perfectly and i thought he would be kinda flattered.

as for this situation he said it was a english project so im guessing he used it for a cover or something. english projects dont get A's for covers but it does help to look professional.

sorry wonkus but it does seem like you are overreacting a little but i do understand your position. going about banning him does seem like a little much. i think if you talked to him and got the whole story it might comfort you a little.. just my 2 cents

That's asinine. I don't agree with stealing or ripping, but he certainly wasn't indignant about it. He didn't say "fuck you all, I stole this wall and there's nothing anybody can do about it," because he would just be another asshole. He didn't do that.

Consider this - he's in high school or college somewhere, and he has some sort of assignment due that either 1) requires a cool-looking visual aid or 2) requires a professional-looking wallpaper-type image AS the project. In either case, if he plagiarized Wonkus' work, he should be penalized accordingly in the class. If he credited him, that's fine unless the image is the whole assignment, because he didn't do anything but steal.

I for one wouldn't care if somebody took an image of mine and used it for an assignment, credit or not, because they DID credit you in some way. Him coming here and saying he took it was either a sign that he felt bad he took without asking, or a sign that he's really dumb. I see no reason to suggest that he's trying to piss anybody off.

Nobody has any kind of right to use somebody else's work as their own. There are implied copyrights, and plagiarism is a big deal in school. However, given that it's an English assignment - likely for high school somewhere - there's next to no harm done.

He benefits anyway because he's getting a grade. If he just took it outright and started making money, getting job interviews, things like that, then he should pay for it. If it's just a grade in English class, it's much less of an issue. It's dishonest, but it's no big deal. There's a difference there.

And he came here to tell people, specifically Wonkus - that he used his work. I can't think of any good reason why other than that he felt bad. If he hadn't said anything, what are the chances anybody would know? That still wouldn't make it right, but I give him credit for admitting it. Hell, OJ still says he didn't kill Nicole. two points:

1. heroin didn't say if he gave any credit/indicated in his project that the wall was or wasn't his.

2. there was no permission asked and has been no explanation.

all of you guys have to realize that, when it comes to english classes now days, there are many different types of projects that kids have to do. sometimes a teacher will ask their students to turn in a project discussing a piece of art, other times, they'll ask for a 'visual' paper (ie, a piece of work done in a medium OTHER THAN the written word). until heroin tells us, we won't know what it was.

as for the plagerism...well...the teacher and school won't count it as such if he did credit sir wonkus. if, however, he didn't and they find out, he could be in some serious trouble. it doesn't matter that the images on custo are here for anyone to use free of charge, if he took credit for the work, then it's plagerism. these images are NOT clipart or stock imagery that you are allowed to use in your work without express permission or crediting the artist/author.

i encourage heroin to step forward and clear everything up as soon as possible. and, until that time, i am reserving my judgement on if he did take the image and claim it was his own. however, i do agree that he should have contacted sir wonkus privately about this matter.

im thinking on all new releases by me will just have my real full name on them. and maybe ill delete old walls where i think my name could be to easily removed.

hey all, didn't mean to make such a big deal out of all this, i probly should've just IMed the wonkster.

let me clear a few things up. first off, im not going to lie about anything because it really wouldn't be worth it. as tony mantana put it "i own two things in this world my word and my balls, and i don't break either for anyone." or something like that.. .

now let me explain the english project. it was to create a graphic example of something that represents you.

i should tell you that i'm fairly lazy and waited untill the last minute to start the project. and like i said, i needed an A in that class. so instead of putting in my own effort, i took one of wonkus's wallpapers (the building one, forgot what its called) and edited a few things.

i left the name intact, but erased the line along the top and added something more personal.

i never really claimed the wall as my own but if the teacher asks i will tell her that i made it.

for those of you saying i should be banned and comparing this to murder quit being such drama queens. i really don't see how theres any harm done. it's not like im submitting it in an art portfolio to college or something, i only turned in an edited version for a 25 point english project.

a while back, I used the whody's way wallpaper -blue version- for the background for a poem. I never actaully asked hermik for his permission, but i did give him full credit and the URL for this site. but that had absolutely nothing to do with my grade, i just thought it went with the poem rather nicely. however, i think im with wonkus on this one, because this guy hasnt said anything since the start of this topic yesturday.

I have never thought about using someone elses wallpapers and claiming it as my own for school, but now that heroin admits to doing it, i wouldnt doubt that there is a lot of people out there that do it. Unless there is someone else in your class who visits the site, your not gonna get caught. It sucks that its like that, but there isnt really anyway to stop it. Users of custo need to have character and most do.

well, heroin, if you do get caught (because there are teachers who DO check to make sure that stuff isn't plagerized no matter what it is) i really don't feel sorry for what will happen to you. my best advice to anyone who does this is that, if asked, own up to it being someone else's work...heroin, you should own up and tell your teacher if they ask you. let them know that it's by someone else and that you did some stuff to it to make it more your own.

Well, that's it. We gave heroin a chance to state his case and he did..poorly. I hope that you do get caught, plagarism IS a punishable crime.
