today, i woke up, popped some adderall, decided i'd fix my humdrum desktop, into something new. After a few hours of tinkering, i to take a snapshot and send it to here. After waiting to see what everyone thought, i got a 31.38 from the Admins. I do see it just that the Admins are allowed to rate whatever they want, with whatever they want. However, with one quick look at the recent submissions, they all have scores which range in the 30's. Now, personally, i run gentoo linux, and i guarantee you that i spend more time tinkering with my computer than a lot of you other people out there, including the admins. But i mean come on! A 31.38? What the hell man, what's up with this? At least tell me why my desktop sucks SOOO bad to get a score among the 30's. I mean, come on admins, quit pullin your pudd!
I think all rating should have some explanation, but as a follow up question; I notice that after some days admin ratings change a little bit sometimes. Why is that?
fate00000: As new submissions come in, they are either ranked above or below your submission. When submissions get submitted and ranked above/below one submission, the rank changes. This is because the ranking system isn't static, but the average changes depending on how many submissions there are and when your one sub is in the list. (I dont know, maybe it only makes sense in my mind)
So basically, if you submitted a screenshot when custo opened and it got a 90, then by now the score should have risen significantly since so many more subs have been added to the database.

If it were raining shit outside you wouldn't look for the shinyest piece and call it a raindrop. I'm sure they all got 30's because they all didn't match up to higher quality screens.

Moose: I subbed that and it was originally rated with a 90, because it was back in the day and a WB skin, WA skin, and matching wallpaper was the height of cool. Since then as screens have been ranked lower than 90, it pushed mine up to a 99.

his point is that it started as a 90. a buttload of screens got ranked lower, so his gained points. if you look at my unstoppable wallpaper, it started out at a 91.somethingsomething and has dropped since down to an 89 because more wallpapers have been ranked above it. same goes with screens. I have one that's ranked 67 that was first ranked as a 78.

But I have a question for the admins, do you rate the walls like us ? put in a number, or do you put in like, 90% or something? or a score or something? Cause I dont see why they would change over time
It was your wall, for the most part. The admins are usually spot on with the ratings. There have been some rare, odd ones, but only a few. Your wall ruined the entire thing, really. Other than that, why not e-mail the proper admin, and ask them personally?

Originality (has it been done before, or is it new, or is it repetative bs), Usability (is it easy to use, does it theme well, does it work with other "stuff"), Artwork (Appearence, etc). These are the guidelines we follow.
However, more importantly, ranking is just a number between 1 and 100. It is nothing. Getting a 1 doesn't give you special credit, nor does getting 100. Its a number. Don't let a number get to you. If you like it, then it works for you.
If you have questions about your rating, you are more than welcome to e-mail any admin (or if you know which one rated your submission, e-mail him/her) and ask why the rating was what it was. We are more than happy to give you a more thorough explanation if you want it. =)
LTD is right on the money about it all. Boogieman couldn't have explained the rating system better.

Maybe he gave you a 31.85 because your desktop is cluttered, ugly, non-matching, and everytime you submit something you make some huge stink about getting a low score from somebody. I understand you like large photos, and you do present some very nice linux themes, but the shit doesnt match. It NEVER goes together. Every shot your theme over whelmes the picture and usually the colors completely clash and just look ugly. If you want to use pictures, make the picture to fucking center of the theme. Find a dominent color and go with that. But stop submitting the same ass ugly picture with the same ugly theme. Thats prolly why you got a 31.

i always like your stuff, personally. But I'm not the only admin. My advice is: Don't sweat it. The people who appreciate you do, the people who don't, don't.

I did find it kind of odd the for the admin scores your getting super low like 16 when the public scores are in the 90's. But you really shouldn't get upset about the admin score. To me it's the public score is what means somthing. Unless of course the admin has taken the time to give some decent critisim. Don't sweat it, I loved the factory wall.
A screenshot is more than a pic.. its the art of blending/matching. It's not just one thing to merely have a decent wallpaper but the meat of it all is that it should thoroughly match the rest of your desktop. I have rated one of your shots and gave it a low score because it did'nt match well or seem to blend well with the wall itself.
I think the majority of your high scores come from others who also use and like linux which there is nothing wrong with using it but there are ways to have better matching on a linux desktop as a matter of fact here is one example
Max said it all. Recent screenshots have been abysmal. Too many submitted, most of them with too little effort. At least do up a suite, that way it all matches and probably looks good. I mean, it might not be original, but it's the overall look/matching/extent of customizing apps that matter.

Girlietec... the reason that the public score is usually higher than the admin score is because a user can rate every submission the same score if they'd like to. Admins don't "rate" submissions, we "rank" them. The difference is this: When you rate a submission, you are giving it a score. When an admin ranks a submission, we are giving them a ranking out of the total # of that particular skin. No 2 screenshots can have the same ranking.
Hey thats fine, but it just goes with want I'm saying, most people see the admin rating as a score ex 1-100. Which it's not, so to the average user it's unimportant, unless the admin has given decent advice. It's the public rating which shows an overall opioin.
LOL . . . . I'm in a good mood. I just had an awesome veal sandwich. It's raining so hard that on the way home I almost hit a car parked on the roadside . . . .damn all that glare at night. Anyway, don't be so hung up on the admin score. If they give advice, however, you should take it.
