as we all know, msstyle is a basic windowblinds engine. it is outdated and lacks a lot of the new features and bug fixes, but it doesnt seem as 'bloated. its nice to deal with the native engine, even if you have to use a third party program or patch. at the same time windowblinds is like an addon, and if you have the power, it might be worth it.
as for skins, i think the msstyle styles for the most part have been ugly and uncreative. as windowblinds skinners seem to understand going beyond the squre and colours that is windows. not to say there havent been great styles for msstyle, as this site has many of them.
ive tried both, and basically i am against installing things when i have no real need too. right now i have the skinning engine off anyway, and i am using 3DCC.
i can't imagine it being too hard to port one to the other. or to create a program that will support both.
msstyles, windowblinds' skins are boring and bloated, not to mention the program is just the same. msstyles is built in basically, virtually 0% mem/cpu resource usage, and, all the themes out fit my desktop setups excellently, so you know my answer now =)
: Nothing's better than takin a dump and checkin out some uber hardware...well...hacking into microsoft while dropping off the Cosby's might be better :
Everytime Stardock roll out another release of WB they say it's faster. And everytime I install it, it's not. They make all these ridiculous claims for their software but you only have to use the stupid program for a minute to realise they're talking out of their arses. Windowblinds is slow and buggy and whilst there might be several thousand skins for it, 99.99999% of them are amateur, puffy-buttoned shite.
msstyles cuz theres no programs to run that can get errors and crash or have to load up cuz its part of the os so no loading time its loaded auto and THERES NO BRANDING!
With windowblinds u need to start it up like a program which could take a long time for most people. Then it has to skin all the stuff. And finally you can still press the start button or ctrl alt del and it will go overtop of your fake desktop.
With MSSTYLES it dosent even need to start because it is the dekstop itself and because of this there is no loading or skinning time and nothing appears as it shouldent.
Windowblinds does NOT use up more resources. I used to use it and it used up less than 3k memory all of the time. I recently switched to msstyles for a change. Either way is nice, but as mentioned above, I haven't seen nearly as many good looking msstyles themes as Windowblinds themes.
