i wondering whats going to happen to all these free sites soon. blocking popups/ads has become so much simpler now, how will these free sites survive without income? i too use a hosts file and pheonix so i havent seen advertisements in months except right after i format, but im wondering what site owners will turn to next for revenue.
the amount of pop-up ads that are mismarketed is shocking. How many users here are in the target market for a 2003 Lincoln? Custo is one of the few spots where i get the exposure to these flash ads, and even if i don't have any interest in the product offered, i'd rather see a well designed ad than block it off. This is NOT the case throughout and i'm not surprised the masses are adopting adblockers, but i'm guessing marketers are relying on the average web surfers who don't know of the preventive controls.
No, they work on the concept of noticing windows that open themselves, and refusing to let them. Banner ads appear to the browser/popup-blocker to be just like any other image in a webpage, so they're left in place, because they could easily be legitimate.
