Want to find some place close that sells Initial D DVD's. There are all kinds of electronics stores, and malls that are kinda close by,like 45 minute drive, but am looking for the Initial D for my boyfriend. Reading this made me think about how he loves Initial D so much. If anyone has any store names they think I may be familiar with,by the way, live in a tri-state area,Indiana,Kentucky, and Ohio,so I do live in the US,just incase. If anybody knows any please let me know, and i'd greatly appreciate it. It's about 2am right now,and i've been searching for 2 hours trying to find a place that may have Initial D DVD's.
BTW, the Castle Caligliostro (however it's spelled) reference in ep. 5 of FLCL is blantant and funny. Not really trivia worthy unless you just don't know your stuff.
Excel Saga, Kite, Perfect Blue, Devil Hunter Yohko, Armitage: Dual-Matrix, Cowboy Bebop, Boogiepop Phantom, Weiss Cruz (may not be spelled like that), Ceres, Outlaw Star, Dragonball and DBZ, Tenchi Muyo (but not dubbed, subtitled only, the Japanese voice actress for Ryoko is so much better than the english), and Excel Saga. there are probably more that i liked, but those are the only ones that my mind will dig up at the moment.
english dubbed animes are horrible.. one moment they're screamng off tune the next moment they start talking even though the voice somehow doesn't blend in with the background music... for example.. dragonball

I GUARANDAMNTEE YOU that you will LOVE AZUMANGA DAIOH. That anime is hilarious. And INITIAL D is also really great, i'm surprised i'm not the first to mention it. KIDDY GRADE is also good.
This might help you choose better than just a list.
Trigun (Series) - awesome story line, if not a bit crazy at first, a good mix of action, insane comedy, and terrific music.
Cowboy Bebop (Series\Movie) - Amazing animation combined with a story line that's open ended and never gets boring. It's about space bounty hunters. Awesome score.
Bezerk (Series) - A very bloody medieval anime with a hero who uses a huge fucking sword.. cool music (cept for the theme song, it blows) Good story line to go with the action as well, if not a bit disturbing.
Samurai X (Kenshin OVA) and it's sequel - Tragically beautiful.. historically accurate, and mastefully animated, terrfic score. Samurais, gotta love 'em.
FLCL (Series) - I have yet to see it first hand, but I hear it's godly. I'll get around to it eventually.
Akira (Movie) - The epitome of Japanese animation hitting the American mainstream, awesome animation, intriquing errie plot.
Noir (Series) - One of my particular favorites, has sort of a James Bond appeal with two attractive chicks in France. Music is awesome here and animation is killer.
Spirited Away (Movie) - well yeah.. I had to add this.
Spawn (Series) - Excellent american animation.. very dark, very errie and just worth the time to watch..
Hellsing (Series) - Watch this anime! Beautiful, dark, insane. It's about vampire's and their hunters.. fantastic jazzy score.
Ninja Scroll (Movie) - Amazing, bloody, and a killer story.. a bit on the darker side as well, but it's a classic.
Escaflowne (Series) - Addictive as crack, until it's over.
Ok that's about it for my guerilla reviews.. I'd do more but I'm sick of typing and I can't throw out anymore on the top of my head.. god there are so many good ones.. I hope this helps out a bit.
you hear a lot of anime fans foaming at the mouth about Evangelion and FLCL, and i guarantee that everything they say is true. Eva and FLCL will blow your brains right out your ass.
but lately i've been obsessed with Uchuu no Stellvia, Scrapped Princess, Onegai Twins (you have to watch Onegai Teacher before Twins), and Last Exile.
the popular series Neon Genesis Evangelion Info:Includes futuristic "EVA's" (mechs if you will). Many ties to religious artifacts, people, and places (the spear of Longinus, for example, which was the the spear used by the soldier named Longinus to pierce Christ when he was crucified on the cross.) A futuristic sci-fi anime. A bit confusing, but a "staple" of anime fans because of it's depth and mind-numbing story.
- Watch 'The End of Evangelion' and 'Death and Rebirth' for the proper ending to the series.
Trigun Info:Futuristic setting, with a western movie feel. One of the more comical of the bunch. Fighting mostly involves guns of various types. Probably the most emotional of the bunch.
Cowboy Bebop Highly Recommended
Info:Futuristic sci-fi setting, mostly taking place in space or on ships. Plot contains a group of "cowboys" with specialized skills. Very active and interesting plot, great animation and drawing style. Fighting varies between flying ships and hand-to-hand combat. movie is worth seeing as well.
the lesser-knowns Hellsing Info: Vampires, blood, and set in slightly post-modern times. A rather small series, but very addictive, even if Vampires aren't your thing.
Hunter X Hunter Highly Recommended
Info:Mystical setting. The largest series of the ones listed, with atleast 62 regular season episodes plus a minimum of 16 OVA episodes. Excellent plot, entertaining, and addictive. Fighting is mostly hand-to-hand combat, with the evolution of the character development being relative to that of an rpg.
The first OVA set (8 episodes) is a must, as it continues the plot. The second OVA set (atleast 8) continues the plot further. Possibly a 3rd OVA set, or another season to come, as the show is still not yet finished.
Hope this info helps :) They're all worth watching, though the denoted Highly Recommended series have overral, better plots, character development, drawing style, and are much more complete shows. They should be at the very top of your list.
Naruto - it's about ninjas. Top notch fighting scenes, with some good humor. Although it seems to be getting slow.
Gundam Seed - The current Gundam series. Set in yet another universe. Pretty good plots, although the animation isn't too good compared to stuff nowadays. Ends in 2 months.
Last Exile - THE BOMB. One of the better series, if not the best, that Gonzo has come up with in my personal opinion. Excellent 3D, excellent 2D, story plots which you could never predict.
Scrapped Princess - Final Fantasy + Matrix + Star Trek + Grandia II. Don't understand what i'm saying? Well, just watch the series and fall in love.
Stellvia of the Universe - I don't know why, I just love it. Sci-fi, cell-shaded 3D. About a space academy in the far future.
Air Master - EXCELLENTLY choreographed fighting scenes. This is one series with fighting scenes so well done, that nothing comes close. Reported to have the highest ratings and views - i think.
Texhnolyze - I don't know how to describe this.
Everything I listed above is currently still running on Japanese television.
Stop trying to be Hash? What the fuck? I was telling him what I thought of some good anime's I swear to god, sometimes you people piss me off. By the by, I finally was able to watch FLCL, it rocks.

It isn't your usual American cartoon. In most case, American cartoon don't really have any depth or story behind it. Just random events. Anime however, is much like watching a tv series. There often times a real plot and character development. It usually consists of story development through each episode. Just think of it as a tv series in an animation format. There are many types of genre that you could choose from, its just a matter of finding your taste of what you like.

I heard a lot of great suggestions here. ;) Really shocked I didn't see Death Note or Gintama mentioned though. Also, you should check out Shoujo Kakumei Utena. There's one that'll make you think.
