One website I go to used a wallpaper in their site's design (they did, not anymore). They said it was from here. So, my question: I notice a lot of the wallpapers have read-me's saying you're not allowed to use the file for anything other then a desktop background.
Are there any that allow you to use them for other things?
If it's for your personal use and no one will see it but you (i.e. convert it to a windows loading splash), I'd say go on ahead and do what you like. If you're planning on using it in a website or otherwise publicy, NO.

I hate to be a picker of nits. But wouldn't you then not be able to submit a screen shot of your desk if you use someone elses wall? (Acording to colossus)
That's personal use, and it's the use the wallpaper author intended.. I meant incorporated into your website, etc. And yeah, you're picking nits and no, it wasn't a good point.

yeah, a screenshot is just a compilation of a group of authors' works. an analogy: you can keep a set of encyclopedias and call them yours, even though you were not the authors, and you can share them with someone else...
a screen shot is not being used for anything more then the sole purpose of its use on someones screen. if I was an author of the wallapaper, I would be like, hey! use my wall... and yeah.. its not like ur makeing money off of it either. haha
