Smoking = cancer. Besides that, most smokers breath is repugnant. 'Nuff said.
Does a 'gas guzzling SUV' give somebody cancer? No. But being around smokers for a prolonged period of time will. BTW, if drivers have to get their cars checked for emissions, why shouldn't smokers have their bodies checked for the trash that cancer sticks give em? The fact is, for everyone who smokes (and is addicted):
around 6000 people in the US die from smoking every day...and they freak when when a terrorist attack kills less than that? just imagine another day had passed, bush..
lol, if you really wanna talk about it again, just think of it this way. When you are born, you have less then a .01% chance of getting lung cancer, by smoking ciggs for more then 10 years, you raise your .01% chance by 12%, which doesnt really add much. Most smokers die of heart disease, and 9 times outta 10, they know what they are doing, so who the hell cares anyways.

I think the problem here is everyone's being too extreme. I smoke, but no more than an average of 1 a day. I'll sometimes have a week where I'll smoke a few a day, then sometimes a week where I don't at all. So when you start generalising and telling me I can't smoke in a place I was sat first in a pub or something (or even worse on the street where there's plenty of air) because you don't like the 20+ a day people who don't make an effort to keep the smoke away from you, I'm not a happy bunny. It's a restriction of freedom, something we seem to be seeing a lot of now, funnily enough mostly coming from "the land of the free" itself.

I give a shit about a lot of people that dont smoke, I try and never blow smoke in their direction, I keep my cigarette under the table when im not actually smokin it when im at the table with non-smokers. Cigarettes and the like have been around for far longer than anyone on this entire forum has even been alive, before we were even thought of. We're not MURDERING people (and if you say "You're murdering yourselves by smoking" save your breath because that's retarded) It's our choice, and it's a free country, we can do what we want where we want. And if non-smokers don't like it, that's fine, I understand, and I have no problem with them, but who's to say WHO has to be the one to move? After all, that's why they have smoking/non smoking sections in most restaurants, I think it's real funny when the old nonsmokers sit in the smoking section because we usually have booths in that section. And if your complaining about how the air amells outside, haha you got far more problems than I thought. What about car pollution, toxic waste dumping, dead animals just lying on the sides of the roads, cigarette smoke is the least of your worries.
