Q: When did I start on the scene?
A: 18

Q: How old am I now?
A: 22

Q: Any big projects come and gone?
A: Was a bit of a Flash Jock and Web Dev. at a local community college for a while, that's about it.

Q: Do I still look at the community in the same way?
A: Nope, I was an optimist, became a very pessimistic person when I saw the lamers invade custo on a regular basis, and now I'm a realist I guess, hoping that the new custo dosen't suffer the same fate as before.

4: All communities change, what it was today was not what it was yesterday, nor what it will be tomorrow. Is it different? Yes. Is that bad? No.

hell no ... now that i am 'on the inside,' i find that there is a lot more incolved in with this community that what meets the eye. a lot more processes, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, and a lot of rewards in the end. it is much more than just a hobby to me now.

3. Half-Life Mapping. I did some work on cs_siege after the original maker, n0th1ng, passed. I also did some work on Mapcore.com witch is now dead. I am now Working with Kulao.
4. No, there are way to many people now to look at it the same way. Back in the day only the good artists posted their 'good' art. Almost nobody posted 'bad' art. It was much easier to respect someone’s talent back then. Now you get allot of bad looking 'first trys'. Yeah I do understand that its there first try but that doesn't need you need to post it. I don’t know… What ever.

Another question you should have asked is, what is your orginal ID number?

Mine would happen to be #28 ;)

1. How old were you when you appeared on the scene?

That was in '98 I think, so I was... *thinks* twenty or twentyone back then. Probably twentyone.

2. How old are you now?

Ancient, twentyfour.

3. Have you had any big projects come and go over the years/months/weks/days?

No, though I've been drafted by Tek.

4. Do you still look at the community the same way you used to?

Still the same old realistic view. One thing that changed though is that I always used to look down on people that were posting on boards. Being an archetypal loner, I always thought it was filled with sad people with no social life and such. Look at me now...

I was fortunate enough to work with some great people on DeskMod, and am looking forward to the launch of Kulao.

4. Do you still look at the community the same way you used to?

I've always had a great deal of admiration for the talent of those who can consitently create art in this digital medium. But after having seen (and participated in a small way) the work that goes into creating/maintaining a skins or graphics site I have come to appreciate those who do so much behind the scenes that alot of people take for granted.

2. now I am 27.5
3. www.nuitari.com has been my project for most of that time, but again, it is private
4. I've mostly been an admirer of some great talent, precurser and misery come to mind. I remember when customize came around the first time, there was alot of energy around the community, and it was of course alot smaller. Now that devart pretty much dominates the scene, it seems like there is alot of whining around. No one wants any criticism, and they want everything for free without banner ads...and fast as lightning.

3. Not anything that even remotely touches the scene.
4. Definately not. I didn't decide to vanish for a while for nothing (not that I was that active). Community expanding like a nuclear mushroom with an overall drop in quality as a result, too many apps appearing to keep track off and a couple of mayor sites dropping dead caused me to loose interest entirely. I just got back out of curiosity.

4) I used to really love skinning. Was a new thing, kinda un-heard of. Was fun to make your desktop not look like it was supposed to. Don't really care too much about it now. The only skinnable app I use anymore is Winamp and I've been using the same skin for the last year or so. I do like to stick around though cause I'm very much into design these days and a lot of the cats who were into skinning a couple of years ago are as well.

well to answer 1 and 2 together-i'm 38 and have only been around since last august.

3.well,there was devswap-what was supposed to be a community tool for sharing stockphotos, textures, apps and tutorials between peeps in the community.good idea i think that got pushed to the side and given up on by the community(wy in particular)too quickly.i may try it again in a different form someday.

4.i used to love it.now-it's a bit more reserved...alot of changes have taken place in the past year-and most of them unfortunately are not positive ones.there are too many cliques, groups and peeps out only for themselves.the word community has lost it's meaning in many places....

1.How old were you when you appeared on the scene?

14 years old - and boy was i chubby.

2.How old are you now?

18, and currently sexy as hell.

3. Have you had any big projects come and go over the years/months/weks/days?

not really- my skinning life has been on hold with school and work and everything. i havent really released anything since deskmod first changed their layout to the one that took me ten minutes to load - remember that? ha... i'm kind of rekindling the old photoshop fires, tho. i would love to finally get my website up and running... but it just seems like such a big thing to take on right now. maybe sometime soon i'll be able to devote a few hours a week, but rigth now i just think i'll be putting a few minutes a day into my new winamp skin. look for it in... late fall probly.

4. Do you still look at the community the same way you used to?

no one really does... but its pretty crazy seeing all these people here again after all this time. i remember so many of these names. really, everyone's been hitting the nail on the head- with such a boom in population, the community's kinda become a home for mediocre skins and art. you really have to weed thru the new additions to find something worth downloading - thats why the featured mod at DM was so popular. the quality of work may improve with time... who knows... but at least we have a messageboard we can come to and feel comfortable. this always was the best part of custo.

DoorinD says:

you know, i just thought of something.

realistically, we're making a huge transition into a new generation of skinners. think of it - four years ago, the guys that you would come to custo to see were guys like Misery, Shoggot, Goran, Fli7e, and Pordey. (remember fuckin' Pordey?) but all these guys, and the others that were really in the mainstream of it all (there were plenty more- about twelve to fifteen really well-known guys), have basically moved on into bigger and better things. once in a while you'll see a new wallpaper on Fli7e's site or a new revision of deaddreamer, but these people arent really as big an impact now (not to say they didnt leave their mark, which they definitely did - i only mean that they're not as active today) as they were back in the early days of skinning (remember, four to six years ago WERE the early days).

now, we're moving on to the people that, four years ago, were relative unknowns. Xcaponius comes to mind, as a few years ago he was known only by a few people, and only as the guy who had an X in all the names of his skins. now, he's established himself as one of the best skinners around, posting high marks everywhere he uploads. other names are popping up, or are becoming more common - names like sphere and monaux (huge apologies if you did consider yourself well known and i am, in fact, in error about one of these names) and quite a few others that at one time were relative unknowns, but now are extremely well - respected skinners. so we're kind of in a transition phase, arent we? especially with all the new styles and new trends. i suppose something like this will happen every few years or so. the so - called 'crash and demise of the skinning community,' then a reconstruction, and then a year or two later will come a rebirth of sorts... hopefully thats where we are now. a renaissance of the skinning world.

or maybe i'm getting a bit ahead of everything.

Damn Door, you hit it right on the spot with all of that. So many new people around making much better skins then what were made back in the day. The art has really evolved allot. I kind of feel sorry for all of the new people that haven't been around long enough to watch the artwork evolve.

I would love to see some of the “old guys” come back and starting making some skins just so we could see how much there talent has evolved. Just by looking at screenshots of your latest skins it blows me away how good you have gotten over the past years. I know you don’t have much time with school or work (even parties :) ) but you really should devote more time to computer graphics...
