i understand the question was too broad, but you gave me what i needed to know..

i was thinking about importing a laptop but the software that makes it appealing has no english counterpart. so i was wondering if left the laptop in its natural japanese state with the original software, could i install the english software regularly....

basically, i'd just have to do it and see what happens.

btw 1980 was a good year.
