In what manner do you wish to connect? If you want to share an internet connection, no problem. If you're looking to share files and what not, it could get sticky I think. do i need special software etc or anything for the transfer of files between the 2? Yes. I can't remember what it's called, but the box has a piece sign on it, my girlfriend uses it. what sort of performance will this machine give me compared to a regular PC (especially in the graphics department)? Your older powerbook I fear is no match for a newer +1 gig with 512 or more megs RAM Intel\Athlon box.... but it'll certainly do!
I'm no Mac vs. PC expert, I just bought my first apple ever a month ago too, but I've had little time to play w\ it yet....

I imagine a G3 that old is gonna have OS9 running on it....so I fear that native support for smb file sharing is going to be completely out of the question.
You might want to search on some apple software sites for "samba" or "smb" and see what you can come up with. Or, you can just search for windows file sharing or something of that nature. Either way, what your'e looking for is a file sharing system that allows you to use the SMB protocol which is what windows uses to share files.
Is it gonna happen? I can't imagine that Macs went all the way through OSX without being able to share files with a windows PC.
