So I followed the instructions on How to Use XP themes, installing the Ux Theme Multi Patcher. However, it doesn't work. When I try to use the themes I've downloaded from the website, or even the default XP one, I get this error message:
Can someone please tell me what I've done wrong and how to fix it so I can use custom themes?

P.S.--->If patcher isnt working correctly, try in safe mode...as i saw the error in the picture...it seems that running the patcher in Safe Mode is your option...
Another thing to do is...obtaining the original "uxtheme.dll" and replacing it with the patched one...
It works! Finally! When I went to manually replace the file, it was missing. So I put the new one in place, which did nothing. Then I used the patcher again, twice, and now, finally, themes work! Thanks for the help
I'm Having The Same Problems. I've Tried To Manually replace the file to. But windos won't let me. Can someone help? Only The Classic Windwos style theme works and i can't change anything else.
For people having difficulty manually replacing the uxtheme.dll file, you must have a utility for replacing system files that are in use. The one exception was where the file was missing. (Since it was missing, it couldn't have been in use.) Anyway, this link is for my package including a utility called Replacer, the updated uxtheme.dll file, and instructions. It's pretty simple. It works on XP sp3, and sp2 as far as I know. The Replacer utility can also be used to screw up a lot of other things on your computer if you wish. LOL.
One more thing... Whenever you replace a system file, you cannot expect the system to work right until the computer has been restarted. That is especially true with the uxtheme.dll file.
