I'm very new to Windows themes, but I like to customize my PC so I tried downloading a few XP skins. I followed the guide to the letter (downloaded and applied the UXTheme Multi-Patcher and unzipped the appropriate files), but I get a strange error message every time I try to apply the theme:
An exception occured while trying to run "C:\windows\system32\desk.cpl desk, @Appearance /Action:OpenMSTheme /file:"
Anyone else encounter this problem or know how to solve it? I'm running Windows XP 32-Bit and I can provide my hardware specs if they matter.
Many thanks!

Make sure the visual style you're trying to use is in a folder with the exact name of the visual style. Put this folder in your Themes folder.
Ex: C:/windows/resources/themes/visualstylex/visualstylex.msstyl es
Install all included fonts as well.
Then, either double-click the .msstyles file or go to Control Panel/Display/Appearance and change it that way. If you've installed the visual style and multi-patcher correctly, you'll see 'visualstylex' in the dropdown menu of the Appearance tab.
Thanks for the tips! I did everything you said (moving the folder, ensuring the name, downloading the fonts) but still the same error message pops up!
The theme name appears in the drop down menu of the appearance tab, but the picture of it doesn't show up in the preview window. Could it be a problem with the multi-patcher?
