wallpaper challenge

wow. that's weird. i also had a very similar idea when i saw thomax's remix of staticuxo's shot. i think it would be really cool to pick a particular wallpaper and say, an accompanying vs, and see who comes up with the slickest version of a shot.

i'd sign up for such a contest.

that would give people without ideas something to go on :D

I think I would suck at such a contest not having ideas and such.

blackbox users do this all the time in the bblean forums apparently, but with matching/making bbstyles to a wallpaper.

I think this is a GREAT idea!
On custo we have loads of these great ideas, but they seem to die out and nothing eventually takes place.

I really hopes this happens becuase I always run out of inspiration!

well, em, i guess the most situation is like that: A plant of similiar ss! ,i mean it's not so custo
how about we not choose wallpaper, we choose 3 colors as basic color bunch,or 3 elements as basic ss part ,let's see what will be out from genius,

thats basically the point. it going to be similar, but the fun part is going to be all the small differences.

yes, you're still going to need inspiration for any such contest.

swayso, i think choosing multiple color schemes/other stuff would only unnecessarily complicate things. it may also make the final products much closer in resemblance. if we pick one wallpaper that CANNOT be touched or altered and a vs that can be modded as the user pleases, i think the results could be spectacular.

any programs could be included in a submission too, from litestep to bb or winamp to foobar.

how about suggestions for wallpapers and/or a base vs?

remember that picking walls that have a large maximum resolution can't hurt.

i dont really know if we need a base vs. my thoughts was just let people mod whatever vs they like, but you might be on to something.

I am not shure about that choice of wallpapers nitzua, since it is to do a ss based in a wallpaper, I think walls should be more rich in own characteristic elements in order of the vs, foobar, etc be more centered in the wall. This wall elements for me its are: a complete and well defined colour scheme and a unique and easily recognized style.
Also if you want to increase the level of difficulty in order to compel people to use more imagination, you should chose something with its own texture, this would creat a more complete feeling of unit in the whole screenshot, but this part is not the most important.
this is my favourit choice:

i think shinter's would be the most challenging, and would be more fun for it, but jared's 'the day..' provides the flexibility for a nice varied group of solid shots.

and daftendirekt would just be fun. i've always wanted to do a shot based on that.

@caliban: that all may be true, but if we implement a textured wall, then everyone's first inclination would be to put the texture somewhere in the vs or overall design of the shot. this alone limits things. my idea behind this would be starting with less as far as the base wp and vs, so that more extravagant reinterpretations of the original ingredients could be achieved.

the way you're suggesting could work, but it sets more guidelines that i think would ultimately produce less innovation.

also, picking a wall that someone's already done a shot with would be redundant.

that being said, the contest rules could also work as follows:

pick an image or wallpaper, one of your favorites, one you've always wanted to do, etc, and do a shot based around it.

this would make the rules very simple, allow the contest to start almost immediately, and would produce some swell results imo.

i'm with noka, think everyone should use the same wall - that's really the whole point of this - and just let them go from there. no base vs required, the wall's the only constraint.

I also agree with the fact that we should all try and stick with the same wall. This can then be bundled together and named "Wallpaper/Screenshot contest: (wallpaper name).

The advantage of us all trying with the same wall, is well the fact that we can judge which user has made the best of the colour scheme apparent in the wallpaper and also how much variation of styling there is for a particular wall.

It would also allow a certain wallpaper creator to understand which types of wallpaper make effective bases for screenshots and so on.

I don't really mind if we have a contest with different walls, although I think it would be rather like having just a normal screenshot contest.

maybe we should allow people to edit the wall
they can add a texture themselves with photoshop, or shift the hues
that would up the game

you can do it if you want to, nitz. but i still think we should have on single wall to go by, and thats it.
and people can choose their own vs to mod.
but get a vote going on a wall, the sooner the better.
