After one listening I think it's okay at the very best. But I'm a bit difficult about music and Radiohead was one of my teenager heroes bands.
But I deeply love the way they are distributing the album. It's probably the way the things should be in the digital era, pay what you can and if you want. If there's only regular prices most people will end-up downloading for free. Now if it's a band you respect that is close to give their recorded work we almost feel the urge to pay. Little, but pay. And that's a great way to deal I think.
Josh wrote a great article about this release on http://onhiat.us , check out.
Hah, its not really much of an article at all. Just a notice =). As for the album - I enjoy it and I think its worthy of standing side by side w/ the rest of their catalog. I think the last couple of albums they put out were mostly driven by Thom's vision - this one has Jonny coming back out and taking the reigns on a few of the songs. In other words they traded a lot of the digital blips and returned to using good ol' fashioned analog instruments.
"I hear you're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real. You want to make a Yaz record.
I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables. I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars."
Yes. It's a holiday today here and I was drinking and having a conversation with a friend last night. So I mixed things a bit :x. The notice is great and link to their website, actually it's where I came to realize their new album was available.
I'll give it a second listening for sure. Sober this time.
Oh, my feeble mind. Okay, I gave a proper listen now. It's actually very good. My fav of them is Kid A followed by OK Computer. Excepting the first one I think all the others are at the same level, which talking of Radiohead is a very high one.
Still, what I think might be revolutionary with this album is the way it's being sold.
