Well the usual ones, the kroeger family, avant garde lt medium (caps) and the others that were already mentioned. A new font find would be nice though...
@ nitzua ......wouldn't do a screen with it. looks like shit at smaller sizes. i would use it for other design purposes. Still a great font though. And yeah if you want me to throw it your way, check your mail in a day or so. :D
i'd love to use a bauhaus some time, you pull it off so well fabio. i used avant garde to death a while back, now i'm doing the same with calibri. i don't get to use haxrcorp-s8 often enough, but it's in my list of favs. i wasn't always the biggest fan of arial caps, but pep's releases are making it grow on me.
Helvetica and Swiss don't look good on Windows (because of ClearType rendering). They look miles better on a Mac. They are better again when printed (in comparison with other fonts).
I'm looking forward to finding a font that I am happy with.
Kroeger: Found the edges too hard
Arial: Too skinny
Verdana: Too fat
AvantGarde: Looks okay but only when larger
Calibri: Fantastic, except for those damn descenders
Faceplate: My current favourite for print, but shares the same problem as AvantGarde - it was designed for print
Bauhaus: Works well on screen and print. Not so conventional, which can be good or bad depending on your objective
Segoe UI: Its hard to find a decent size to sit at that looks good with both LS and VS font rendering. That said this is my current favourite screen font as it has good height to width ratio
what do you guys say we redo the answers with what are the best sizes for the certain fonts? ;o i find it hard sometimes to find the right size, especially with pixel fonts
Its interesting because on http://www.miniml.com/ which I believe is the author of Kroeger, he says all those fonts on his page are to be used at 8pt or any multiple of 8. But on my computer, it looks fuxed up at 8. It looks good at 6, as you suggested. Maybe this has something to do with my DPI being at 96 instead of 72? I read something about that I didnt really understand it.
6pt (8px) is usually the size for pixel fonts, such as Standard, Hooge, Kroeger etc. ----------------------------------------- "2. Font Size Miniml fonts must set to 8 points or any multiple of 8 (16, 24, 32, etc.) The first 2 numbers after the font name refer to the cap height in pixels. The last 2 numbers refer to the font style." ----------------------------------------- =S
And yeh, I thought DPI affected font sizes/appearance, but if Kroeger looks right at 6pt on your monitor, then that's the standard/normal... Confused.
Oh, by the way, I didn't change the name of that 04b_03, so you probably have to replace the nocaps version to install that one... If it's a problem, ask, and I'll update the upload with a changed one.
It's def confusing and then it renders differently in different browsers, OS, etc not to mention the DPI setting which it does seem to be made for 72 dpi although most minitors nowadays seemt o be set to 96dpi although im not sure if it would be a good idea to change it down to 72 i barely know antying about dpi settings :\
@SunMoonStar: 72dpi is the standard on screen dpi 150dpi is standard for low resolution proofing 300dpi is standard for print as the human eye cannot see more than that
If you think that's confusing just wait until ppcm is standardised. AHH! :\
i just paid 10$ for a font called barrett prime.[ vintage typeface] these ones however are out of my range. i'm sure custom fonts would be more expensive though. still......
I would strongly recommend using TGTSoft Resedit which is freeware (http://www.tgtsoft.com/prod_rb.php) instead of reshacker. It is far superior in this task. Then just open up the msstyles, navigate to TEXTFILES and select the file named Normal*_ini, where * is the color scheme. Then just press the edit button to edit. The fonts are defined in there.
