Didn't know where to post it, but might as well post here. ;)
I have an old CRT (13") I used to use with my old can, but now since I got this new computer I use the LCD that came with it (17" I believe), but one problem - It only supports 1024x768. I'm going insane in this low res, being used to using 1280x1024 all the time. CRT's are better than LCD's color depth etc wise, but I'm not sure if I'll be comfortable going back to a small screen.
Ideas?

Samsung doesn't produce any monitors with S-IPS panels, most of theirs are TN. Some of their more expensive ones are MVA, which is slightly better, but still not the quality S-IPS gives.
TN is the cheapest, crappiest type of panel, fast reaction times and bright colors but that's about it. I just returned 2 Samsung 22" TN panels because they look like utter shit compared to my S-IPS panels. Horrible color accuracy, bad banding, viewing angles. They are not true color capable, being only 6 bit instead of 8. If you're serious about graphics avoid TN panels. All these cheap 20" LCD displays they're flooding the market with for around 200 bucks are very tempting but it really is better to spend the extra 100 or so and get the better panels.
On the downside, S-IPS reaction times are slower, so gamers probably would prefer a TN. esp. since they probably like the overblown color in addition to the quick response.
There's not a lot of models with S-IPS out there, Apple and Dell being the big twp brands that offer them.
It's the main differense between Dell's cheap 20" and their expensive 20" . All Apple displays are S-IPS, which is why they are maybe worth the outlay, it isn't just the pretty bezel.
