Hey guys, recently made the switch and picked up a macbook pro. im quite anxious to start customizing it...
Loving the whole gaia gui kit.. is there a way to apply these tweaks without havign to use the shapeshifter (shareware) software?
Any handy advice regarding mac customization (trying to keep running extra programs to a minimum) ... Also anyone find an "easy" in modding the host file?
shapeshifter is the only way to use a guikit. It is possible to create an installer who let you apply the resources without shapeshifter but it's very buggy (kernel panics on 3rd-party-apps etc.)
Ah... i was really curious to see if you will submit another Vista shot. As for me i am making the step back to XP.
OS X has a lot abilites. And it has a great and versitale Interface. But i prefer smaller fonts and space usage. After 7 months of using it i wish i had my usual explorer back. The finder is great. Has a good overview. Maybe it´s just because i am so used to XP and it´s explorer.
Good luck! Novoo knows quite a lot about customizing OS X. I think he´s the right person to ask ;)
Have to agree with Imrik on the fonts. I love my macbook and OS X, but its annoying how much space is taken up just by large fonts alone.
I do prefer Finder and Quicksilver instead of Explorer now that I've gotten used to both.
For replacing icons, check out Liteicon. (its free). And if you don't want to use shapeshifter, check out installer themes, there's several rather good ones like Vitae, Uno, or Susmu's Cats.
Themepark is the faster way to compile a theme and that exports it as a guikit (which is what shapeshifter applies). There is a program called Tikiug which extracts the resources from a guikit so you can mess with them and mod them. If you have anymore specific questions, please post.
