For me it started back in March... I was looking for some visual styles and then I came upon this place. This place looked nicer and easier to use (in fact it was about a week after the site was relaunched), and I've been here since.
I know this website since I was 16... That time, I´ve been here to find some Windows Media Player skins, as an anonymous. I came back in April to present my works on Winamp skinning and more, downloading XP themes and meeting new people.
I was looking for things that didn't outright suck. I was much impressed with this site as compared to the others that I surfed (deviantart, wincustomize, crystalxp.net, et cetera). Plus, I was completely sick of the unoriginal Vista/Longhorn/Mac skins floating around. Anyways, stayed an anonymous for a year, then signed up, tho I am still mostly an anonymous. I love this site.
The long story is on my website. But I shall type out a short version now ...
Well, I hated the windows throbber, Googled for something to get rid of it. Found VP, looked around there. Found WinMod then known as the Modzine forums. Heard about Custo as the elite.
And heard that it was real tough to do something good enough for the site. Was scared of signing up here. Lurked for probably a year or so. Then impulsively decided to sign up and submit something.
i had seen it way back from a link from deskmod, basically sonique (once the best media player) was the main reason I ended up there, but it wasn't until I spent time on WinT's site and forum, as that gradually became less updated I spent more time here
a friend got my into using winamp instead of windows media player in ninth grade, about year 2000. i would spend hours at winamp.com downloading skins. then that friend told me about custo, and how it had skins that couldn't be found on winamp.com. i joined up the next year under a different account and have been here ever since.
a link from someone at wincustomize i believe.i saw a screenshot from vsm and i was hooked. When you really, and i mean really look at other sites, you soon realize the elite of customizing are here. @skry........haha, nice.
was into the deskmod.com community, it went away and i was lost... lol, anyway, along those lines i came to like customize even tho it was a bit elitist back then... was way better than DA or wincustomize imo tho. i'm basically a commentor here, not too much time to play, but still enjoy the scene
i started in march 2007. i am new. i didn't even have a clue about customizing until my brother showed it to me. then i submitted a screenshot, that looked terrible by the way, and finally figured it out. i am still not so great at customizing but i'll get it one day :)
my profile says that i've been registered here since 2001, but i don't know when i started to lurk around here. i used to hang around at skinz.org during its glory days, but i always knew of custo and came here occasionally even though i never registered back then. when skinz.org disappeared i belive i turned to deskmod, and also started to lurk more at custo. when deskmod disappeared i went custo all out.
I was watching a video tutorial on Wndows XP on the website www.lynda.com and this site was shown on the video of customizing your theme. I need help. I still do not have a clue how to make my own login screen. I can understand why a person would "manipulate" someone elses skin out of pure frustration of being here an hour and still not FINDING how to make my own from scratch. PLEASE HELP ME SOMEBODY!! I HAVE THE IDEA FIRMLY PICTURED IN MY MIND. HELP.
Learn by example. Open up the skin, focus on it, figure out how it's done, and modify it from there. After every ounce of the original is gone it can be counted as your own from scratch.
At least that's my opinion on the matter. But I do stress until every ounce of the original is gone.
