One thing we need to decide on is how the gaia.customize.org mini-site is going to work. What do you guys envision? I'm thinking the same basic layout Imrik made, but instead of needing all the EVO tab, boxes etc we can just have it show the gallery nicely and put the message about global warming front and centre.
That would be perfect. As we wrote mails i understood that it´s basically a new labout for customize so i tried to work around the current layout. But having it as an exhibition for the suite i can rework the layout and post it again?
1) a GAIA layout like what you have to skin customize.org
2) a layout for the GAIA exhibit
Does that make sense to you guys? I think that'd work quite well. My main concern is how the exhibit links into customize.org. I'm thinking it could be almost a one page site that displays some information about the project and global warming, and then shows all the different submissions organized nicely. Each thumbnail would then link to its regular custo page (but using the GAIA skin).
Basically, like except instead of linking to the zip files it links to the custo page. So it would be quite simple, but give some freedom for laying out all the thumbnails and grouping by OS or type (icons together, etc).
we start with a plain site, with some grass in the bottom of the page.
With a click over the "enter site or something" a seed drops to the field, then with each click it starts to grown showing diverse categories text - global awarness tips - art - the suite
and with each "branch" we got many more like:
suite - VS ---- gaia by imrik ---- gaia by MAD ---- gaia by et al
That´s a good idea egolatra. It fits the theme of the suite really well. The problem is that navigating through such a kind of layout isn´t easy and fast. When we do a new version of Four Impressions rioo and i talk a lot about layouts and navigation. Since he´s working as a professional graphic designer i see his arguments for simple and easy to use websites. That´s why i kept it that way it is currently. I will try to integrate your idea as well as possible.
What about you others? Nobody posted a comment or reply in this group except you both and me
ego, your idea is cool but as Imrik says, usability is a problem. That was one thing people complained about with Desktopography. I like the idea of keeping it simple (HTML/CSS) and more similar to the feel of Custo so thats my vote... but if someone wants to do an elaborate Flash layout I certainly won't stop them :)
i'm totally with lamplighter and imrik. the page should really be fast and clean, because i've already made the experience that you get annoyed quickly by slow and uncomfortable layouts, although the looked very good.
