yeah thats pretty cool. Could probably make something like it in LS... given enough time! :D

but I think the Text should always be upright. like whne the seconds gets to 30 or so it should "flip" the text so we can read it without craning our necks.

@ fractal: looking forward to that :D

@duskt: maybe in rainmeter it could be easier... damn i wish nylons were online.

I'm betting of all the programs we got, LS, Samurize, or Rainmeter quite possibly could do that. I agree with the flipping thing. And also you probably could do that with an active desktop. I've seen some crazy stuff done with those. Even flash stuff.

active desktop?

I have an idea of how to do it in Rainmeter, but it's not worth it to write new code change the colour for every second. I'm not sure about how efficient it would be, either.

you just can't put the text on the circles like that with samurize

Well holy crap is that an annoying site to navigate through.

The allotment of time you can post some thing from digg or other sources is 18 hours. Jeez find out the rules.

@Imrik, i definitely like that navigation of that site.

it's definitely not possible w/ samurize, since rotating text isn't allowed. i've always thought it should be implemented though, i'd have a ton of uses for it

in Rainmeter it won´t be a problem at all if you are willing to create a bitmap for every second, minute, hour, etc ...
same with Konfab or SystemMeter.

AKH-Arazand says:

@moshi.
Could it be done with roundlines? Of course cutting out all text...
Making a pic for every sec... it would be a hella size on that skin! ^^;;

02:56 pm (2 years ago)
4767
mailmerge says:

Those roundlines won't change the colour. I know you could have sixty (EDIT: actually like 200) but it's such a waste of resources. Images also allow you to do the edges more smoothly.

The only problem I was thinking about was the smooth movement (it moves to the next second faster than a second and the way it reverts back to 0 is a big part of the clock).

05:55 pm (2 years ago)
1574
AKH-Arazand says:

~13 kb per image(png-format with transparency)
200 images per ring
200 images is ~2600 kb
6 rings with 200 images each is about 15600 kb (~15,3 mb) total.
+ config files etc.
worth it? I would say HELL YES! ^^

Well it really something beautiful, but still using a single image for each frame... damn there's a lot of work a head for that lucky someone!

Collaboration maybe?
Put together a team that could make graphics and one for the config.ini work properly and it wont take more then a... few days to make I think... instead of a single person working a little when he/she feels like it taking a month or two.

Pyro_ says:

PFFT. I don't think it's THAT cool. I like my non-waste-of-resources text clock much better. ;)

But I've seen worse skins, so I'm sure there's a good amount of people who would think it's worth it. However I don't do Rainmeter skins, Moshi is the resident skinner of it -- but who would he collab with?

07:51 pm (2 years ago)

dustkt says:

how do you put flash on an active desktop? wouldn't that solve the problem?

07:59 pm (2 years ago)
1574
AKH-Arazand says:

Meh, it isn't hard to create the rings and all, It just take so much time to create a image and edit it 199 times then save 200 images...

I wouldn't want that job...
I'm sure there are easier ways though... if you got the skills and balls to work it out...

08:02 pm (2 years ago)
2317
Pyro_ says:

@Dustkt: I'm not entirely sure.. but I could have sworn I'd seen it done. I saw a flash dock once that they said could be used on their desktop. Plus I thought I saw other examples..

@AKH, well yeah it's all that time. AND the largeness of the skin file that sucks.

08:16 pm (2 years ago)

mailmerge says:

dustkt: Just link to that page like you'd normally do (or http://blog.pixelbreaker.com/upload/polarclock/RingClock.swf if you're feeling really ballsy)
Unfortunately, it's non-scalable and the background colour can't be changed.

You can get a screensaver <a href=http://blog.pixelbreaker.com/flash/polar-clock-v2/">
here[/a].

The 200 image estimate is the total number of images, so it's not bad. I say again, the problem is the animation when we get to 60, but if you just want a bar that changes colour, it's not difficult. 13kb is also pretty large even if you would want it at the size of the original?

I don't think it's that brilliant a clock either, but it's an interesting "what if?". In the end (for Rainmeter, at least), I think you just end up making too many comprimises.

08:20 pm (2 years ago)
2317
Pyro_ says:

Yeah interesting "what if?" sums it up, I wouldn't want to tell the time from that all the time.

ah, the hell?

ok, yea... I agree...
(Became a bit...uhm buggy there, but it resolved it self...)

with LS we could use xPaintClass to color (hue/mix/saturation/etc) the images on the fly.

And maybe hopefully someday rotating text will be added :X
but until then we can use images :)

08:28 am (2 years ago)

dustkt says:

images for the text as well?

10:23 am (2 years ago)

make the images with the text within them. ^^
Of course you'll need a new image every change in the text... which makes it a little bigger.

the animation when it reverts to zero can be done with a calc meter in Rainmeter. it just has to be triggered with a time meter.

Haha. As I said I'm good with my clock. I think AKH wants it the most though. =P

I was assuming that they were gonna scale it down.

09:30 pm (2 years ago)
1384

well, I gave it a try last night, and it could be done quite simply.

I just can't be bothered making all the images! :P
if someone wanna make them for me, I would gladly create a res-independant polarclock for litestep.

Only need 1 ring size (can resize it within litestep) with 60 stages of growth.

And any text you might need.
It might be an idea to do it without text for starters though (it looks prettier without too imo)

Just to let you know xPaintClass (for LItestep) now has text rotation!!!

Its still in alpha, although stable. Info here: http://www.ls-universe.info/comment.php?comment.news.406

It also has image rotation!

So this clock idea is now completely feasable ;)

07:19 am (2 years ago)
2565
moshi says:

have you tried that? rotated text is useless, it needs to follow a path / curve

12:14 pm (2 years ago)
1384

yes, but if the text is small enough (and the circle big enough) it should be unnoticable, seeing as the text isn't too long.

no I havent tried it yet.
