Customizing myspace
|
So who's delved into the horror that is myspace's HTML and come out with a decent looking layout? Or seen any other good layouts or clever hacks... post em here!

if people submitted free layouts here (good ones) could you imagine the traffic evo would get ._.

Yeah it would be good to build a decent community around it, cus all the sites out there offering layouts/codes etc at the moment are awful to use... i thought this group might be a good start

indeed, the free ones out there are disgusting.

The code is terrible...terrible to a degree that I hate doing anything with it.
Besides, I don't know how well the "fluffy bunnies pink-on-lighter-pink so you can't read a damn thing" crowd is going to fit in to this community.
But hey, I'm all for it and I'lll crank out a few if needed to get it going.

Saw this mentioned over at GSM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAmTmO0ZWSY
It shows you how to cover your whole profile with a div so you basically get a blank canvas to work on.... pretty nifty

well damn...now I might actually get to work.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a horrible idea? The kind of people myspace layouts bring in are uh...not the most savvy users.
Also, the more widespread these layouts become, the sooner myspace puts the kibosh on the ability to even do it.

Yeah that is a concern, but I think it'd be the same as how you have all the wallpaper sites out there now (i.e. google "wallpapers"), all of which offer any old wallpapers (britney etc) and are poorly designed sites, going for quantity over quality.
Whereas you have custo which has a strong community of people who are focussed on creating a higher standard of wallpaper, both technically and artistically. That's what I think we could do for layouts, if we ever decided to support them.

That youtube tutorial above didn't seem like quite the ideal approach to me... is that the same way myspace has been hacked up in the great linked myspace pages in this old custo thread?
customize.org/forum/11414
I was under the impression it was more about mashing the tables up to buggery by totally redefining them with css.
I've only recently looked at having a myspace presence (more for reluctant business reasons) so have only just discovered how mind-blowingly bad the html is.
[Edit: beta.customize.org didn't like me linking to the old custo so I had to unlink the link]

You can get the old custo topics on here too: http://beta.customize.org/groups/topic/11414
It looks like some people have used the div method, but most of those look like they've just been hacked up the normal way

i stole the graphics to this layout from a website mockup on devart. www.myspace.com/andrezew also, to get the thing to be centered and have the header repeating was beyond my capabilities at the time, so its not perfect.

i know its against myspace's TOS but i really don't care. can someone point me in the direction of covering up those effing ads?

got tired of my old layout, so i did a new one. same as last time though, i stole some graphics off devart and applied it to my page.

i was wondering how long it took you guys to fix your pages and how you figured out what to customize e.g: table div div font {} and the other random crap they have there

@ nitzua, how do you make your tables fixed? I mean like centered pretty well and even if people post pictures your comments table stays the same width.. Thx in advance ;)

i'm not sure really, i got the layout from some site and modded it. google a 'profile stealer' and you can get my code.

Frankenstein - you should post your code for your page, that would be the bees knees.

Hey thanks for compliments. It was hard work.
Thanks for requests. I will at some point in the future publish the code here. It's not without bugs at the moment (I hate IE).

-_- nice but maybe attempt to get tables lined up, width wise.

i definatly agree with cody on this one, i'd much rather not have people who don't know what they're doing at all spamming with questions that they could easily figure out themselves. Instead of dedicating a section to myspace layouts, it should just be segmented into this forum group. If you have a cool layout, post a screenshot here with like your code and links to the images...or just provide the images and the people can host them themselves.
People could also post tuts and things here because the current sites that provide tuts and things are so basic that they really don't help anyone. To really do anything you need at least a mediocre grasp at CSS already.
Just my two cents :P

here's mine http://myspace.com/capitalizex - it's not customized right now cause i lost the code when i was fucking with it and didn't have it backed up when i thought i did...will be back to awesomeness later.

capitalizex, i totally agree on. Ya think we should make a topic for each layout or just a regular screenshot submission?
Frankenstein, you are so right. But i just can't figure out how, seems my code is a bit messed up and refuses to change width.
Setting the right example, here is my full code (including images as i hosted them myself)
http://users.telenet.be/saikoindustries/myspace/code.txt
Feel free to use it etc.. (btw capitalizex if you rather see this in an other Custo section, just leave a msg and i'll do so).

By the way, i'm planning to use some robot images to make it less female-alike ;)

well, i think that if you have a brand new one it wouldent hurt to make a new topic in this forum group. Something titled "Person - Layout Name" and in it having a screen and or link to where they can see a version of it and then a seperate link for code and any comments.
