Gotta give credit that a "love" is more than a "like" at least. You can, of course, tweak that number--but at the very least you should have it weighted a bit.
Also--are you going ot add a "most popular" bar to home page? Would need to be most *recently* popular..so a bit more work, but I think its a good idea.
Which brings up an interesting point, maybe we should put a timeframe on popularity? Like have an "all time most popular" and "recently popular" or something? Cus a lot of new stuff is gonna take forever to reach the top when taking into account subs with 200,000 downloads etc.
Maybe loves/likes just need a lot more weight over views/downloads, so that they are most important for popularity... that would give us a "freshness" with the voting system being new
It's a tough balance when you have 30,000 submissions that have not yet been taken into account in the "likes and loves" system....recency is important, but not the most important factor.
Likes and loves should definitely be weighted the highest, and there should likely be "recently popular" and "all time popular" as you would except all time popular to be much less dynamic.
It's going to be a process coming up with the algorithm...but it will be reached. Just so long as I don't have to see Shinter's "Spacetraveling" as the #1 submission forever.....
Ok I think this is better, more of a mixture of old and new, with emphasis on the new voting system but allowing old stuff to retain its high placement too:
