I don't know who here agrees with me on this, but since when did it become necessary to post two or three images on top of one another in a screenshot? Most of the people who do it don't even have any windows open that would need the extra space. Post a clean version and link to a dirty version if that is your thing, or if you want to show off your new wall clearly.
I remember when someone jumped down pepijn's throat for arranging his screenshots in photoshop for accuracy. Isn't this technically PSing?
I don't know, I'm just annoyed by it that's all. I, personally, really like screenshots that are perfectly matched and have lots of windows/programs opened and arranged neatly, like akka's new one, for example. I guess it's ultimately a matter of taste, but one has to argue the frivality of it anyway.
Screenshots - may they burn in hell. That's my take on this.

The purpose of customization is to create something you like. By being a part of this community, it would indicate you like desktop customization. And if you like customization, why not make a double-shot to better show off your work?
If you don't like double screens, or even single-screens for that matter, that's your call, but don't bash someone else for taking the time to better illustrate what their desk looks like.
I agree with you Josh, because for me a screenshot is about showing what you are working with. But if you want to show a wallpaper that can't be found on the net it can be usefull, but i prefer the clean/dirty way then like you said, i would personally post the dirty version with a link to the clean one then though. Another case in which it's usefull, but i haven't seen to many of this, is when you did did two versions of the same setup like i did here . On the other hand, like puer said, to each his own =)
erm snowman you're an admin on TWO customizing/skinning sites...screenshots are a way of showing customization, in fact the ONLY way to do so without releasing things.
'useless' image?? screenshots have inspired me for a long time, from when i'd look at one and think to myself 'well it'd be great if i could do that' to now when i see a slick one and think 'hey i know how they did that'.
talk about completely left fielded rant...
as for the topic at hand, i've been calling out unneccessary double or triple screens since i first saw one. my main reason for doing so originally was that the users seemed to be displaying their image more than once simply so their shot would stand out among the rest of the mediocre submissions. real great ss's (like the afforementioned one from akka) are composed with care and style, and show all working elements in just one screen. i can't stop anyone from uploading a double or triple shot, but it was lame from the time it was first misused imo.
in the case of that shot pep, puer is right, it's a perfect utilization of the concept.
ultimately, it comes down to this: if the shots that have been displayed can be broken down into two or more great screens, then the double effect is just fine.
If people do it, then people do it. I don't understand the big deal you guys are making out of this and how anyone could be annoyed but such a small detail.
hay guys use the download link in the SS if you want to put a clean & dirty version
i.e.
In details / larger view put the "dirty" shot and if you want put the "clean" in the download so any that really wants to look the shot without windows could do it.
Why the dirty as the main? Because that's the one that really counts ;)
I personaly dont see anything wrong with doublle even tripple screenshots. Mather of fact i love those. Gives u insight on how ppl use the desktop they work on. Hmm on second thought, i post a double screenshot that for what ever reason gets featured, Max says in a comment under it: "I'm a fan of the style of putting 2 screen shots together" and this thread pops up the next day? Weird. Now please tell me u didnt start this cause of my featured desktop and that this has been a problem of custo for the past month or two or more and needs to be addressed now. I'm sorry if i seem to sensitive but all the things point to that. Coincidence or not? Please do clarify to me on this mather. If u wonder why i did it it was to show a teaser of both my upcoming wallpaper work i plan to release in a cleaner way without a big window blocking the wallpaper image so ppl can see a preview of whats comin up from me in the next few days (even rip it out of it if they cant wait, go ahead i dun mind) and the rest of my windows mods i also plan to release to whom ever wants it. I could have taken two roads: double screenshot or double post (one of the ss and one of the wall). Now to post a preview of a wallpaper is rather silly cause many wud dl it already and then re-dl later and i wud have an unfinished wall running around the internet. not good.
Shinter: I didn't mention anything in my comment of your screenshot about it because I knew your intent was to show off your wall, as well as your desk. I can understand that. On the other hand, some people do it for no reason at all. Both screens are pretty much empty, and the content could easily fit into one.
This post was in no way solely directed at you. Your screenshot was merely the latest in the trend of doubles that caught me attention.
The intent of this thread was to discourage people from pointlessly posting two screens in one, and to focus more on presenting what their actual "screenshot" consists of. People with genuine reasons for doing so have never bothered me. It is those that abuse the option that gets to me.
Ok thanks for claryfing. ^^ I see your point clearer and it does stand in case of some screenie submissions i'v seen here and on other sites, now that i think of it.
i think if you have things that look different like sam. configs that expand and close, its okay to make those type of double/triple screenshots. but seriously, who cares, i dont find it that big of an annoyance to bash someone for doing it.
I'm not a fan of the multiple screenshots. I have no desire to see what your desktop looks like without any windows open. If you want people to see you wallpaper without all your apps covering it, then provide a link in the designer notes.
Side note: People need to do better jobs of using the designer notes. When I was an admin, I deleted screenshots that did not include designer notes that gave credit to the authors of the works used in the shot. I think that policy should still be enforced.
I'm sorry, I don't really mind about the multiple screens. Why the hell there are always someone to pick the little details? Just look the one of the multiple screens you like the most and then ignore the others, done!
eh ive stopped caring about submitting...espically if you seem to be too "new" to receive constructive criticism...not like anyone is obligated to respond to every screenshot submitted, but ive decided to rely on the opinions of my personal friends and my own taste rather that some people on the net who only seem to have an eye for a particular style.
I don't get that does it hurt you to look at those ...if so just close it again after opening ...who cares I posted 2 double screens but solely for the purposes of showing a VS (wip) ...so how can I show the start menu and at the same time an active taskbutton?

Lots of screenshot forums have people who post clean and dirty shots, it's been happening for a good while, so there's not much innovative about it. I think it's just a thing some people do and it finally made it to old dead water custo.
