i tend to be of the liberal persuasion, and environmental issues are very important to me - but greenpeace is an extremist organization, and extremists tend to bend facts.
I agree with DoorinD, athough I know nothing of Greenpeace, I do know that Apple isn't out there clearcutting forest's and puting thousands of speicies on the line. Why don't we worry about the housing compains ever expandding, before we care if Apple recyles, or how long their products last. I do care about the human lifes being put on the line from the chemical exposure, but that is hardly anything in compairison to the destruction of wild life.
First off, what is so bad about this? The ideal end result is less toxins being released into the enviroment. OH NO! I mean really, why criticize this? Do you WANT people absorbing more toxins? Do you think that's an awesome thing? Because basically that's the counter point here.
Where does it say Greenpeace specifically uses Apple products?
Why can't you use and admire someone's products but want change in the production process? Apple and Steve Jobs have a history of progessive ideals, I would expect Apple to lead in this area, not be behind. What's wromg with asking Apple to improve it's recycling and enviromental program? Really, what?
I drive a gasoline powered car, but I am an advocate for non gasoline powered vehicles, there's simply no other current viable option for me. Am I a hypocrite?
It's funny how when huge corporations or governments are aggressive jerks in accomplishing their goals, that's just fine, they are "protecting their interests" but when an organization that's trying to protect the enviroment is aggressive OH MY GOD WHAT ASSHOLES THEY'RE FIGHTING POLLUTION AND GLOBAL WARMING AND BEING AGGRESSIVE ABOUT IT OMG ASSHOLES.
If you look at Greenpeace's main page you'd see this Apple campaign is a very very small part of what they do. They are the only organization who really FIGHTS global warming, imho. WHAT ASSHOLES. Fighting deforestation? OH NO WHAT JERKS.
The gov't and big business have been bashing greenpeace for through the media outlets they control forever, because greenpeace does things counter to their interests. Apparently it worked, because I'd wager most people criticizing greepeace here know jack shit about the organization itself and never bothered to find out more than what the media tells them.
I'd say greenpeace is a hell of a lot less radical and "extremist" in pursuing it's interests than the United States goverment is.
my dad has been running an all apple lab since they came out, half the machines or more in is lab are still beige which means the came out before 2000 and are old bones, but they still work. My ipod has lasted 4.5 years and still works fine. You only hear people bitch, cause people only complain in blogs.
why stop a computer company from using PVC when there are whole industries who only make pvc...that's just silly.
C72, it's true who slam Greenpeace probably didn't bother to find out jack shit about it, and for that reason, don't have much room to legitimately criticize it.
That said, I don't know of anyone whose iPod ever lasted them less than a year, much less six months. I've had mine for three, and I've had absolutely no trouble with it.
Seriously, how can't you care about stuff like this? It's not like a know a lot of Chinese people, but, I bet if you got to know even a few of them you might care a little more about what happens to them.
Oh, I know pleanty of Chinese people. I don't have anything against them, but I just meant that while c72 is doing his part, I'm going to continue to buy Apple. And let others spend on that. I'm sure greencare exaggerates the story, and I am positive Apple is not the prime offender. I was being sarcastic. Sorry if I offended.
I said, I know nothing about greenpeace, I wasn't bashing them. I didn't look at their main page. I went off the info I knew, and yes with out trees/plants humans die. So yes. Trees>Humans, in the grand sceme of things.
"Where does it say Greenpeace specifically uses Apple products?"
"We love Apple."
There you go, they use Apple. Never said specifically. Normally, anyone who uses those words would use Apple's products. All because logically, if they didn't use Apple, they wouldn't make that statement. It's true in any situation.
That would be like you saying "I love that personal massager." Yet you never would use it or whatever.
Greenpeace is saying they love apple. Why? Because of the harm they're causing in the world? YEAH I BET THAT'S IT. Or maybe it's because Apple is reaching out to millions and millions of people and effected their lives somehow via their products or within their software. Greenpeace seems to be admiring the fact apple's products have reached such a wide range of humanity but they didn't do it in an enviromentally concious way. So they're reaching out to a very very wide market that can actually have a significant change. Millions of people, effected by this one product, is a huge change in enviromental status from what they're doing now, and doing it properly, rather than just saying "BOYCOTT APPLE". Think their stock would go down if they decided tomorrow they're going to change their ways of creating products? Nope. Think greenpeace coming out and saying they hateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Apple would have an effect in their stock? Maybe very very slightly... but not enough to call for any drastic change. So greenpeace is reaching out and hoping for HUMANS not the stock holders, not the major investors or creators of apple products, to come out and demand change. HOW ABSURD! GREENPEACE IS A HYPOCRITICAL PIECE OF SHIT, always bringing to attention a major consumer product or something that's dratsitically hurting the world, and hoping that people will want a change. That's it. I commend c72 tremendously and admire the fact he's donated towards a good cause that are looking out for the benefit of the world, be it the enviroment or humanity. Greenpeace style. Anyway SAY YOU BOYCOTT APPLE! Don't admire anything they've been able to do, just flat ourright boycott them! See how far that gets you.
