Digital art: 2 years. Skinning: 7 to 8 months. Art in genernal (Painting, sculpting, ink blocks, etc. etc.): Ever since I was able to handle a crayon. So about 21 to 23 years.
I was skinning before it was called "skinning", gutting Windows resources to customize bitmaps and stuff. Back in '96 it was just "hacking windows lolol". So if that counts, 10 solid years. I've only been doing Winamp stuff since 1999 though, and I've only been releasing work since '01 I believe.
desktop custoing: since i first layed eyes on windows tabworks...active in the skinning community since 2002 photoshop/illustrator: self-taught, no lessons since 2003 (and i still suck) microsoft image composer/paint: since 1997 art of any kind: since i was around 3
When I was born I immediately grabbed a roll of paper towels from a nurse, wet them with my own saliva and constructed an imposing and amazingly mature abstract sculpture.
I've been really customizing my desk since 1,5 years now, rioo's Nano Desktop and imrik's SOIL shot got me into it and taught me how also there was imrik's first LiteStep shot, which, if anyone still has it, i would be very much willing to receive :)
I wrote a "mover cursor, make line" program (from one of those magazines, you know the ones) on my MC-10 color microcomputer. I can't recall the year, whenever Tandy was making MC-10s, I guess. This was before mice so you had to use cursor keys.
I drew a smiley face. A very blocky one, since the res was 320X240 or something retarded like that.
Later I saw precurser's early stuff and flipped my wig and started doing shit.
In between those two things I don't remember much except 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99 it's a 99
I started downloading crappy icons and walls for my computer around 1999-2000 and eventually came upon custo near the end of 2000. Hung around downloading stuff for a bit before creating this account in Jan 02. I started skinning shortly after, starting by messing with awolkers lemon factory skin for winamp.
Wow. I was about 12 when I started tinkering with icons and such on my win 98 machine, but quickly lost interest... But in about '02 I was at my high school, interested in art and computers, taking AP classes in both. I heard about this thing called "multimedia" decided to drop the 256$ for the class at a community college. Within about 2 weeks of attending I was customizing my desktop beyond all recognition. Its a fun hobby.
This thread is about as one-upance as it gets... I was just curious. I saw "MC-10" and knew I was total n00b material. haha
Digital art: 3 1/2 years. Skinning: I started winamp skinning a long, long time ago. Then quit. Then started skinning windows as of this year. Art: As long as I can remember.
Well, I've had this account for four and a half years now, and my DeviantArt account goes back a little over five, so I guess that's the answer you're looking for. Although, truth be told, I've never been a particularly active member in the 'digital art' community as such; I kind of topped out as a screenshot whore a couple years ago and spiraled down into a longtime user/lurker type.
computers: since dos/winNT graphics: since windows bitmap editor :P vectors: visio (yes its a business tool but playing with the word-like line editor was fun) photoshop: since photoshop 5 3dsmax: since 3dmax 4
but the seriousness of it all probably only 3-4 years back
probably 70% of the walls i've made have never seen my desktop. but yeah once you reach the point were you enjoy and actually like what you create, its a good feeling, solid spot to be in, the trouble is just getting there.
Very true. I'm almost there. I'm just having fun though. I've never been too serious about it. I like to make stuff, but I'm starting to like what I'm making.
hmmm quite a while thinking about it, first played around with photoshop at school, so technically 8yrs ago. but in reality only started using packages and taking them seriously about 5 years ago I think.
I've been doing pixel art and dolling for about 4 years.
I came upon customizing in a dolling forum. There was a post about what your desktop looked like, and I saw this guy had Object dock, so I asked what it was, then I tried out Windows blinds and started to get interested in all that stuff.
I started editing rainlendar skins about a year ago, and have actually been doing my own stuff since last november.
