For one, what do you wish to make?

Skins? Wallpapers? Program plug-ins? Icons? Site themes?

Please be a bit more specific with what you're asking.

Also, include what program you wish to learn how to skin.

For example:

"Hi, I am new and want to learn how to make a Visual Style. Can someone tell me what to do?"

or

"Hi, I am new and want to learn how to make a skin for Windows Media Player 10. Can someone tell me what to do?"

i learned just about everything i know about customizing from emulating the best peeps on this site. one thing i know to be true: you wont get ANYWHERE by being a prick.

wallpapers and skins for windows meda player if it helps.

i've heard that windows media player is tough to skin, and has graphical limitations of some kind. i'd recommend using/skinning winamp classic.

as for wallpapers, determine the resolution of you monitor, open up your favorite image editor, start a new file the same size as your res, and make ANY damn thing you want to put on it. after all, it's called customizing. if you want to impress people on here with your skins, i'd suggest looking at things folks have liked/stated to be of high quality, and put your own spin on things.

there arent many bad eggs like troseph on this site; don't let his garbled, non-sensical allegations fool you.

By the way, SkinStudio by StarDock will help you make WMP skins.

After that, you will need photoshop or another image editor.

As for the wallpaper, all you need is an active imagination, a digital camera (If you are going to be doing photo wallpapers.), and photoshop or another image editor.

By the way, both making WMP skins and wallpapers takes practice.
