with all due respect, there's a difference between moderating uninvoked personal attacks, and an abusive administrator with personal vendettas. really, just a "let's cool it, guys" would have been so much more effective than moderating 10+ comments and banning someone... and i think it's safe to say that the majority of the community agrees.

All well to do communities have rules against personal attacks and trollish behaviour, if you feel that the admins moderating personal attacks is too harsh for you then perhaps you need to find another site to take that type of behaviour to.

The community and admins are sick of it, We get violation reports on it all the time. This is not the community for you if thats the way you want to behave, Im sorry but moderation is in order.

This site use to be a great "community", we all visited here to see the newest latest trends in design and customizing, hell customize.org is where I got my start.
Now everytime I turn around there is so much tension and hatred.
You guys (admins and users) are eventually going to lead to the destruction of this "community", slowly this is already taking place.

I think this site should be run by the community and not 4 people. 3 of the 4 are from Visionleague and of course they are going to be very biased about the rankings and such. I think LightLamp should re-evaluate the mods here. I am not pointing fingers but I am sure more than 3/4 of the active members here do not agree with what Max has done.

lamplighter doesnt choose the admins. think about it. have you ever seen a post made by him here? does he interact with the community at all? no. This isnt a personal attack on lamp at all, but its the truth. its his site and he can handle however he wants, but the fact is other staff members message lamp and say "hey could you add soandso to the staff for ranking/news/whatever" and after about a week or so it might be done. That is how I got j3 and heylove added to staff a while back.

Im 100% sure this is how dios and nylons were added to staff. The staff dwindled down to just Max and wynton, so Max chose them and messaged lamp about it. Im not saying there is anything wrong with this, Im only saying this is how its done.

There seems to be too much confusion on how things work around here.

FF speaks the truth. It's not a coincidence or a mystery why all but 3 of the staff quit at the same time. Maybe no one noticed what was happening at the time because there wasn't a notice to anyone.

I guess I missed out on the drama as well. I say, stick to what you like. If you don't like someones comments, fine. Ignore them. If you don't like a staff ranking, ignore them. Hell, I disagree with some rankings and some comments, but that's hardly a reason to act so rashly. I really have no idea what went on here lately, but as far as I can tell Max banned someone, again. It seems like he will continue to do so at his own disgression. So no amount of arguing about it will change anything. Do what I do, submit your work, laugh at the drama, and go about your business.

Should have clarified...by that I mean that everyone was submitting their own ideas and feelings about the situation at hand.

I think enough users here feel "at home" enough to say whatever they want whenever they want, because their reputation backs them up as whatever kind of artists they are. Newcomers are generally treated, well, like complete shit from what I've seen, and people that submit anything other than in-fashion customizations are dealt with like inferiors just because they're not going along with whatever is in all the screenshots.

The community at customize has always been closed minded when it comes to new users, or new users in general. How many posts have you seen with the sarcastic "justfuckinggoogleit" link? So many of the forum posts on this website develop into trolling or insults that have no basis other than reputation.

Other sites that have thriving communities (DA, Deskmod when it was around, or even Neowin) don't shoot down people that ask a "stupid" question instantly, just because they think they're the top dog on their favorite website. These are the kinds of things I think need to be moderated, since I don't see the point in completely unequal treatment between new users, veteran users, or anything inbetween. The community here is gererally (and mostly...) unfriendly. I'm all for moderation on personal attacks, regardless of how many "at home" folks feel otherwise.

Some of you have no idea what all this drama is about so let me provide a brief commentary on how this all started.


This issue stems from individuals thinking it is ok to disrespect others because they are unknown, ask too many "dumb questions" or not of the status quo. Time and time again personal attacks and sarcastic, aggressive comments are splattered across submissions & forum threads on this site.

Yesterday a user left a comment stating that they felt as though a screenshot submitted by a nuance group member was a ripped work, immediately following his comment, numerous personal attacks full of crude & distasteful language were made against that member. Since I stated before that personal attacks would be removed I took it upon myself to delete them.

To be fair and keep the peace, I also removed the initial comment from the user which claimed that the item was a rip as this was also responsible for sparking the attacks. Another admin removed remarks made by members which also criticized the site's admins for in thier opinion giving it a low rank. This is never an issue if the person who submits the item is an unknown or not in the status quo.

These actions did not sit well with a beligerent group of individuals who immediately began personal attacks upon me for doing my site duties. I removed those personal attacks as well as contacted each individual to let them know that what they were doing is against the rules.

The comments progressed at which point I had no choice but to silence one of those individuals. "CAPITALIZEX" has since come forth and apologized for his behaviour and in good faith his account will soon be unsilenced as he will now agree to comply with the policy against personal attacks.

There are many types of members here @ customize.org, but the 2 most distinct are members who have been here for a long time or who may be part of a clique that has been here a long time and feel it is a personal country club where they feel it is thier right to do and say whatever they want, if someone opposes them then that person immediately faces a backlash from the whole clique.

The other group of members are either new or long time visitors who browse the site to find items to customize thier desktops but dont like the behaviour they see in the submission comments or in the forum threads so after a while of constantly seeing this or being belittled for asking simple non aggressive questions they leave thinking the site is full of aggressive, mean spirited individuals and that the site administration condones the behavior.

This is not the case and the admins are united in prohibiting future situations like this. All we want is a site where everyone, even those who are not as well known to be respected and treated with dignity.
