thanks, i had that option off. /: but i am gunna try using a screensaver, and lower the turn monitor off to 20 mins like yours. thanks again! i hope this worksssssssss!
Hm, SP2 makes Windows XP a very safe and stable operating system. You can turn off most of the things with SP2 anyway and you really won't know it's there. But, good luck to you.
Nothing is wrong with not having SP2, like StaticUXO for example. As long as you know what not to click on, download, etc.; you are fine. My friend has had SP1 since it came out and to this day, he hasn't had any trouble. Good luck with the reformat Static.
You could also try hijackthis.exe, it will show you a lot of things that are on your comp (much more in fact than any other program), so you could see if a process or something is hogging your resources. Good luck anyway
I really think you should try updating those drivers.
In the following order, update: 1. Motherboard drivers. These drivers really affect the stabillity of a system. For nvidia based MOTHERBOARDS (like nForce 1,2,3,4... NOT geforce) go to www.nvidia.com and for via based motherboards (like K8T800 or K8T890 and such) go to www.viaarena.com for latest drivers. Install and restart.
2. Update your graphics drivers. For ATI videocards (like 9800PRO, X800, X1800XT) go to www.ati.com and for nvidia cards (geforce FX, Geforce 6000, geforce 7000) go to www.nvidia.com.
3. update your sound drivers. If you dont have any "real" soundcard, these drivers should be updated with those found on the motherboards site. E.g. nForce drivers INCLUDE drivers for sound, while with VIA, there are seperat sound drivers on their site.
Yeah, do that, and spend your time looking at the little rainbow circle spinning while you can't do anything, lol :). No seriously, you're one step short of having a perfect machine, maybe re-install will fix the problem, have you checked the memory ?
Windows Memory Diagnostic seems rather complicated, could Everest do the trick? Yeah, do that, try Everest, it could give you a good pre-diagnostic, and btw, what are your hardware specifications? (could help to see the problem). Man I'm sorry for you, keep us posted, bon courage

Have you got the last drivers for you GC? I remember I had once a problem of freezing because of my Nvidia, but it was 2 years back, still, I'd vote for the memory, you could try to use your computer with one stick alone, alternatively, it could help?
belive me, if you have those kinds of specs, im sure hed like something a little more robust than ubuntu, not knocking it, but windows has served me well for many years, and im not moving to anything but.
