I really like a clear desktop so I often use themes like Rouge (what I'm using now). But it would be even better if I could have a desktop without a taskbar. So my question: Is there any free program that replaces the taskbar with a menu (rightclick menu or something like that)? I've seen some screens of BlackBox and LiteStep, maybe I'm wrong but, they still have a taskbar...
Could somebody please tell me if there is a program like this?
I'll might download it. But on ALL style shots I've seen for LiteStep it still has an taskbar. Is it possible to hide it than? If not, it isn't the program I'm searching for.
Thanks for all the replys. I've downloaded LiteStep, now I have to find out how to install and uninstall it. From all things I read here it should work just great.
while we're on the topic of litestep (and since i didn't want to create a new thread).. how do i edit my popup.rc file? if i go through the rightclick menu into personal files and such, i click on it and nothing happens. and if i try to edit it through explorer, it says access denied.. ??
sadly spoken, I downloaded LiteStep but can't get it working. Can somebody recommend some Installer/Uninstaller?
I'm saying 'Uninstaller' too, because I want to be sure I can easily uninstall it when ever I want. It wont be the first time I screwed up my PC because of a program that changes something about windows that couldn't be uninstalled...
I have to say, you guys were right, it really works great! But... it also screwed my Windows Gui... Here is a screen of how my photoshop looked after installing LiteStep: It screwed up more things than functions it gives back. It's the rouge theme from this site that I used there.
Is it possible to fix this?
Untill I know how to fix problems like this one I won't use LiteBox, it does gives me the power to replace my taskbar, but after that my PC doesn't look clean anymore.
Some themes such as austerity, which is the default one included with the installer, change the system colors automatically. If you don't want that to happen, either comment out that section of the configs, or find a theme that doesn't change system colors (most). A short term fix is to simply reapply your visual style, but every time litestep loads it will reset them.
Dunbar, I wouldn't have posted it if the problem was that small. It wasn't only austerity. I used 3 styles, Austerity and 2 from this site. On ALL of these styles I had exactly the same ugly color changes. So I don't think it's just a thing of the style. Maybe it's because of the rouge style or just because of my PC, but it's ugly...
It looks like the font color for your titlebars is the same color as the background (white). In any event, I dont think LS is doing it by itself. I use a combo of 3DCC, winroll, and litestep. I think your combination of VS and litestep themes just don't agree as far as color goes. Try fixing it with the display properties (go thru control panel since right clicking with ls will obviously yield the popup instead of the desktop menu). Just change the titlebar font color and see what happens.
Popupkilla, do you know the solution of my other problem to? Because I think installing LS, going trough the settings change and everything just to make the titels shw when the other stuff still doesn't work only costs alot of time...
Blackbox is what you want. Removing the taskbar is easy. Installing and uninstalling it is easy. Set up right it uses less than 5 Megs of memory. It never crashes. It's easy to theme, etc., etc..
Litestep is the antithesis of all of these things.
if BB had the customizable features LS does i would be all for it but i like switching things up .. all BB does is switch up the color scheme ... everything else stays the same
Xenopholis, set explorer as your shell, unload any VS, in other words, like "normal" windows, then set LS back as your shell using a real simple theme, heck, give mine a try: THEN apply the VS you want. I just think your trying to do too much custo'ing at once. If it don't work, or you're still not happy with the results, try another VS or 2 and, try BB. Don't get frustrated. All this stuff takes tweaking.
as for switching up i was saying like if you wanted to add things to the taskbar or make it rounded ect .. you are limited - - - - - - - - - - - - Static-
I use litestep, shitstep, nextstep, thisstep, backstep, forwardstep and a few other shells a few days every year, just to show myself how they are like sewage and why I use blackbox. -_-
