GAIA.CUSTOMIZE.ORG online

Imrik
Imrik says:

Climate change and the conservation of our planet is one of the most important issues facing us today. Inspired by Live:Earth, a group of Customize.org members tried to find a way of contributing their own part. But how could a website about desktop customization help to combat global warming?

Go to gaia.customize.org to find it out.

Enjoy the release!

I'd like to say a big well done to everyone who was involved. It's great to see such a wide-ranging and expansive project come to fruition like this.

You all deserve a collective pat on the back.

it's nice and all but I hate the pretense that this is a "community" release. It's basically imrik and a few select individuals...

Yeah, we should definitely digg gaia.customize.org, but there are still some Gaia submissions of the community left.
Can't wait to see GaiaCusto on the digg homepage on first place :D

as amazing as the whole thing looks, i agree with stoptheinsanity. :-\ why should you need an invite to a private group when its a "community project"?

All right. I never did a project like this before. And so we all had to find a way how to deal with it.

And we decided to do it the way we did. Having a specific release date and nobody who submits something unfinished or in the early state isn´t easy to control in a group of ca. 50 people who were invited to the private group. And by the way: Everybody was able to participate in this. As you can read on the subdomain we just upped the core release. And as you see many additions come by time. Samurize configs, handy themes, cursors and a lot other things. This is a community project, i think. And i am really happy that so many people add something to it. That was my thought behind the whole thing.

So what´s your point about this being no community project?

All right! Just dugg it. And I've been telling all my friends about it. Since it's official I haven't linked them, but I shall now!

Also maybe there ought to be a thread for digging it? Dunno how many people will see it in here. We want it to make the front page.

This is a very beautiful suite - could have benefited from a bit more time in some instances and I agree the whole development process could have been a bit more public, but that being said its very nice to have your style back in the galleries. Congrats =)

Thanks for the input about the 'community' aspect of this release. We made it a private group since not everyone was comfortable releasing their works in progress in full view. However, anyone who wanted participate could join (which I hope was clear), and over 50 people did.

As Imrik said, this was just the core release. With so many people wanting to participate, we would've had to make the release date well into August if we wanted everyone to have enough time. This rolling release was the best solution we could come up with.

I hope the entire community will continue contributing and make GAIA the most complete suite ever made! Its certainly going amazing so far!

So you're hoping to make us save energy by turning off computers when not in use. But these great wallpapers are making me stare at the monitor for extended periods of time, when I should've shut it off long ago! :P
